This reminds me of when I tried to get CultureKing and Lewis both elected.

Didn't work out too well... Looks like only one RPP candidate will win.

I must say while a high turnout does not favor the RPP electing two candidates, I am very happy to see the high turnout

I am extremely happy that the DA, a small party, was able to have such a strong showing in this election. It really shows that we span all parties, all ideologies with our practical approach to governance.

It also has a lot to do with the collapse of the non-JCP left

The highest turnout we've had using this system for mid-terms was 66 votes, I believe. I think we'll probably break that record.

The same could be said about the NLC and its predecessor parties (of which the Democratic Alliance seems to be the latest) at their peaks. They've never lasted terribly long, though. Will the DA being the exception, I wonder?

Bacon King is over the quota again, so calculations would require me going back through and finding the second preferences of all of his voters. At this point, better to just wait until the final result. It doesn't look like anything has changed substantially since Lewis's count, though. SPC should still be elected over DWTL as of right now.

Also, we're now tied for highest turnout Senate election under the STV system. Good job, everyone.

Higher than the February Presidential election too.

The Examiner Senate Election Tracker - Update

Last Voter: Smid
Total Valid Votes Cast: 67
Current Quota: 12

Count 1Votes
Bacon King13(Bacon King, Al, BRTD, bgwah, Rob, Ogre Mage, Ebowed, Sensei, Meeker, Bacon King, John Dibble, Andy Jackson, Boris)
Franzl11(Franzl, Verily, Realisticidealist, HappyWarrior, Torie, Moderate, Jamespol, hughento, sbane, Tender Branson, Earth)
afleitch10(Speed of Sound, Hawk, Hashemite, AndrewCT, ilikeverin, bullmoose, Lunar, Gustaf, afleitch, Winfield)
Lief9(opebo, Lief, Earl, Marokai, Smash, Eraserhead, MaxQue, GMantis, jokerman)
South Park Conservative9(benconstine, RowanBrandon, South Park Conservative, dead0man, Persepolis, tmthforu94, PiT, Inks, NCYankee, Winston Disraeli, officepark)
DownWithTheLeft8(DownWithTheLeft, AHDuke, Jedi, Daniel Adams, BrandonH, Luis Gonzalez, Sam Spade, Smid1)
Purple State7(Purple State, Fritz, Lewis, devilman, CultureKing, Peter, Dc_united_15)

1 This presumes Phil doesn't claim the vote. It's unlikely that claiming the vote will ultimately change anything...but it's possible, depending on circumstances.

Bacon King elected with a surplus of 1.
Purple State eliminated as the surplus can't save him.
(Note: Lief outranks SPC based on 2nd preferences 12-6.)

Count 2Votes
Bacon King13
Franzl14(+3: Purple State, Lewis, Peter)
afleitch11(+1: devilman)
Lief11(+2: Fritz, Dc_united_15)
South Park Conservative9
DownWithTheLeft9(+1: Culture King)
Purple State0(-7)

Franzl elected with a surplus of 2.
The surpluses are distributed in order of election (which is silly, it should be by order of magnitude, I should probably move an amendment to that) so BK's is done first.

Count 3Votes
Bacon King12(-1)
Franzl14
Lief119/13(+9/13: Al, BRTD, bgwah, Rob, Ogre Mage, Sensei, Meeker, Boris, Andy Jackson)
afleitch113/13(+3/13: Ebowed, John Dibble, Bacon King)
DownWithTheLeft9 1/13(+1/13: gporter)
South Park Conservative9

Proceed now to the Franzl distribution...

Count 4Votes
Bacon King12
Franzl12(-2)
Lief12.38(+4/14: jamespol, Lewis Trondheim)
afleitch11.46(+1 4/14: Franzl, Verily, HappyWarrior, Torie, Mr. Moderate, hughento, sbane, Purple State, Peter)
DownWithTheLeft9.16(+2/14: Realisticidealist)
South Park Conservative9
Non-Transferable0.29(+4/14: Tender Branson, Earth)

I converted to decimal for the totals here as the fractions get awkward.
Lief is elected with a surplus of 0.38 and while in theory it could affect the outcome if it largely went to SPC - it doesn't. You can either take my word for it or do the math yourself - it gets quite tedious.

Anyway, as it stands it's:
#1 Bacon King
#2 Franzl
#3 Lief
#4 afleitch
#5 DWTL

At this point it's fair to say that the RPP are very likely to lose one of their seats and that the battle now is between DWTL and SPC for the final seat. Lief and afleitch aren't quite safe yet though.

For the record, I have already discussed privately with DWTL that I don't want the seat under these cricumstances.

At the moment it seems that DWTL is the fifth position. But if you were to become that position, you're saying you would remove yourself from the race?

What would that do to the results and math that's going on?

I'm not sure than he can retire like that. But, he can refuses to take his seat.

Indeed, he can't just withdraw and have his other votes redistributed. He would have to refuse to take his seat and move from there.

He could possibly invalidate his vote, similar to the last STV At Large elections - and this would reduce his votes by one, allowing DWTL to draw ahead, at which point his preferences would be distributed since he is at that point eliminated. Obviously his own preference wouldn't count under those circumstances. That'd be my guess, anyway.

Does this mean Purple State and Happywarrior will now be the furthest left economically?

I believe I have made it clear I am always open to educated and well-presented ideas by constituents. It seems I was able to pull out a win here and, if so, I hope you will not be afraid to approach me with any ideas you may have.
