Wow, it seems after my defeat, I'm gotten the most praise since I joined Atlasia. Tongue

Well, I'm willing to buck the trend.

Your attempts at legislating in the Senate have been embarrassing and the fact that your colleagues find it necessary to work out some sort of 'compromise' with many of these ideas rather than rejecting them outright has certainly been unfortunate.

I'd say that the embarrasement is that they were passed in the first place. Given that my party controlled half of the Senate, I doubt that outright rejection would be as feasible as you make it sound, and for good reason.

I only recommend outright rejection because I wrote the bills in question to begin with.  But on a less ideologically driven note, can you really defend repealing numerous important policies by replacing them with nothing?  Of course I realize that this is actually your intent, but it's still ridiculous.

Also SPC when you first joined the Senate I made a few comments that now I look back on and am ashamed of.  I am deeply sorry if I disrespected you in anyway and I hope that you can find it in your heart to forgive me for them.

I'm sorry to see SPC go in the sense that I haven't got anything against him as a person, but I must echo Ebowed's statement...not that I believe that compromises are bad.....I think they were better than doing nothing on the environmental bill....for example, and on other things, but those repeal bills really get old after a while.....and I would like to note that only one single senator voted against the Help Atlasia Study Act Wink

I understand....you got elected as a staunch libertarian, and that's your job, to represent your constituents....

but yeah, there are some political problems Wink

Seriously, I wish you all the best, of course.

The Examiner
29 May 2009

Smid Stands Down to Settle Down

In a press release issued this morning, Sen. Smid (RPP-NE) has announced that he will not be seeking re-election and so will be retiring from the Atlasian Senate at the end of his current term.

"It is with regret that I announce I will not be re-contesting the Northeast Senate seat", Senator Smid said. "Personal matters in RL will prevent me from devoting the level of attention to Senate business that the citizens of the Northeast deserve."

Senator Smid said that he decided to not run for re-election upon realising that the weekend on which elections would be held was the same weekend as his wedding (19 June) and honeymoon.

"I hope to have other um, 'distractions' on my mind while I'm on my honeymoon", Senator Smid said. "Regional Senate elections will be the last thing on my mind at that time. It is entirely possible that I may not even be able to vote for myself, let alone run a campaign."

"Wedding planning will keep me more occupied than a Senate election campaign", the Senator commented.

Senator Smid emphasised that it was not merely a campaign decision to retire. "Had I contested the election, and had I won, I anticipate I will not be able to devote the necessary time to Senate business once married, although I may attempt to post an 'I'm Married' Thread on the Forum Community Board."

The editorial board of The Examiner commends Sen. Smid on his service in the Atlasian Senate and extends their best wishes to him on this happy occasion.

Jas, the presidential candidates have voiced interest in a debate run by a non-partisan moderator. As you have run great debates in the past, I was wondering if The Examiner was up to running another one.

If the respective candidates express that they are okay with it, then yes, I'm happy to moderate a debate.

This could be something of a problem. The DoFA list states it is correct through 15 July - Bullmoose's party change is the last change accounted for in the list. We'll probably end up having to check every later registration ourselves.

I'm off on holiday for a week tomorrow morning - so I can only update this evening. Hopefully those who understand the voting system will continue the updates over the weekend.

I'm still not good with this math, so maybe Jas or somebody can help me.

If RB has like 25 votes and the quota is 12, does that mean his surplus is 13 can all be transferred to SPC?

Actually, my scenario would be hilarious if RB had more than twice the quota therefore SPC had quota to redistribute after RB's votes were given to him

It doesn't specify August 12 EST. In AZ, it would still be August 12th. I think that's something that would need to be explicitly stated, as some elections vary. DS elections opened central time, etc.

Hamilton is 100% right, in the Pacific region, those two voters registered on August 12th.  I'd be willing to take it the SC if necessary because it was August 12th

The SoFA should have required a specific time zone (we have over 4 in US) for registration. I think they are considered valid. When I click that link, I see August 12th. Just like in US elections, polls close at different times because we live on different times.
