Romney. Challengers tend to win, regardless of their actual merits.

I think Obama does.

I really think he is going to nail Mitt hard on his tax plan, it is going to be hard to get around that without much details.

I vote draw, but that isn't an option. I will therefore vote Romney in that he will likely get a small bump out of just surviving going head to head with a standing president.

That is assuming he can avoid doing something stupid and I think his 2 months of practice sessions have probably trained him to avoid creepy laughing, sighing, grabbing obama, making outrageous bets, etc.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Romney's prospects for tonight's debate performance.  I doubt either man will let the other off easy, and I'm even more dubious that the moderation will be friendly to Romney.  Regardless, there's good reason to hope that Romney can do himself some good tonight.  T-minus six hours, thirty-five minutes...

There was a good bit on Politico on how the story's already been written, basically.

Obama.

Mitt Romney's zinger strategy, if true, is just more of the same bad candidate.  I can't see it working.  It will backfire as soon as Jim Lehrer asks him a followup which Jim probably will.

What koenkai and dirks said. Bubba in '96 is the only time where an incumbent POTUS won the first debate.

Mitt will certainly outperform expectations; whether or not it will be to "winning" is uncertain.
