Russ Feingold releases comprehensive tax plan

Create a fair tax system has always been a major talking point for the Feingold campaign, but today, he wants to make a concrete effort in that direction. The Restore Fairness Act, as it has been named in Congress promotes tax cuts for working and middle class Americans with tax hikes for the riches.

The plan contains the following proposals -

1. Increase the capital gains and dividends taxes for families making over 250.000 dollars a year (or 200.000 if single) by 5%
2. Eliminate all oil and gas loopholes
3. Eliminate capital gains taxes for small businesses and start-ups
4. Require publicly traded financial partnerships to pay the corporate income tax
5. Close loopholes in the corporate tax deductibility of CEO pay
6. Create an international tax haven watch list
7. Require economic justification for tax changes
8. Provide option for a pre-filled-out tax form
9. Create a mortgage interest tax credit for non-itemizers
10. Make permanent the Research & Development tax credit
11. Require automatic enrollment in 401(k) plans
12. Require automatic enrollment in IRA plans
13. Create a retirement savings tax credit for low incomes
14. End income tax for seniors making less than $50,000
15. Create a tax credit of $500 for workers
16. Create child tax credits and marriage-penalty fixes
17. Create an earned income tax credit
18. Create a child and dependent care credit
19. Raise income taxes for the high income earners by 5%
20. Lower income taxes for lower income earners by 5%

Russ will promote his plan relentlessly in Iowa and New Hampshire, saying that he is the only candidate coming with extensive plans on issues related to healthcare or taxes. He promises there will be more policies designed to help workers in taxes and other topics.

Senator John Sununu Stumps for Senator John McCain

John E. Sununu
Unknown author / Public domain

Senator John Sununu will be speaking at events across New Hampshire in support of Senator McCain's Presidential campaign. He will also be meeting with local Republican officials and activists to discuss Senator McCain's policy and priorities.

Quote
We talk a lot about courage in politics, about bravery. Of all the many people I have met in Washington, from senior Senators to freshman Representatives, none have shown more courage in their careers than Senator John McCain. He served this country for 23 years as a pilot in the United States Navy, rising to become a Captain. In service to his country, he volunteered for combat assignment in a Vietnam, where he was shot down and held as a prisoner for six years, subjected to torture the scars of which still mark him to this day. As the son of an Admiral, John was offered release in hopes of currying diplomatic favor with the United States, but he flatly refused. Rather than take the easy way out, Senator McCain insisted that those who ha been their longer than him be released first. When he was finally released in 1973, John continued to serve his country for another six years. Less than a year out of a North Vietnamese prison, John took his flight physical and returned to active duty, becoming an executive officer and later the commanding officer of the Navy's largest aviation squad. In his 23 years of military service, Senator McCain earned a Silver Star, three Bronze Stars, and two Legions of Merit.

Senator McCain's service extended into politics very shortly after his return from Vietnam. In 1976, he volunteered for Ronald Reagan's long shot primary campaign, lending his support to the then fledging conservatives movement. Not long after, he became a Navy liaison to the Senate, and he truly discovered how he could serve his country in politics. Since he has entered Congress, Senator McCain has fought tirelessly for his principles, no matter what the party leadership has told him. He's taken on wasteful spending, back room dealing, and pork barrel spending, the sort of political horse trading that has shaken the faith of Americans in our governing institutions. Senator McCain never wavers in his commitment to his principles and his country. And I'll tell you he never backs down from a fight. Trust me, I've been on the receiving end, and it's not pretty.

I am proud to back Senator McCain in this campaign, and am as proud to stand behind him as I am to serve with him in the Senate. I know what type of man he is, and can safely Senator McCain is a man of character. Senator McCain is a patriot, and his record of service is a testament to his love of his country. Above all, however, Senator McCain is a leader, and in these times we need strong, independent minded leaders like Senator McCain who can break through the partisan gridlock and petty bickering in Washington and get things done for the American people.

We need to restore faith in government, as Senator McCain has often said, but the values that have guided us thus far are just as powerful and essential as ever. Senator McCain embodies patriotism, exemplifies leadership, and personifies character in a way only the true greats of Senate history can rival. For many, the chamber is a device that keeps you grounded, serves as your conscience, brimming as it is with the weight of history. It's weight is immense. But men like Senator McCain shape the Senate, and shape our nation. It is men like Senator McCain, who have that rare combination of courage, conviction, and selflessness, who are best suited to lead in times of hardship and in peace. He take's his motto, Country First, to heart. It is not just a slogan for Senator McCain, it is a way of life. That's the sort of attitude that we need in the White House, now more than ever.

I am proud to call Senator McCain a colleague, for he is truly a tribute to the Senate, but more than that, I am proud to call Senator McCain a friend. And I am proud to endorse Senator John McCain, and I ask all of you to work with me to make the great Senator John McCain the next President of the United States!

KathleenSebelius Launches Presidential Campaign in Topeka, KS

Source

"Kansas has been quite the success story over these past 5 years. When I was sworn in as Governor, we had a billion-dollar debt fueled by wasteful spending, threats to cut education, and a divided government. Now, that debt is gone alongside millions in wasteful spending, all while keeping our schools well funded and operational for all of our children. Together, we've stood up to big lobbies and special interests who seek to make change more difficult by expanding recycling in our state, adopting a prescription drug trading program to keep costs of medication down, and protected Kansans right to choose and their right to own a gun.

That solution-based, bipartisan approach is how Democrats win and enact real, tangible change to make life better for all Americans. It's the approach I believe we need at the top of the ticket if we're to win in places like Kansas. Topeka, I'm here to announce my intention to run for President of the United States so we can bring some of our success here in Kansas to Washington.

We've had some real progress under the Gore administration, but there's so much more to be done, especially for our rural communities. We must be willing to allow prescription drug trading on the national level, increase funding to education including trade schools, and investing in alternative energy like wind and ethanol. We Democrats must have a 50 state strategy and be willing to speak on the concerns of urban, suburban, and rural America. I believe we can accomplish great things if we stand together. I hope you'll join me!"

Senator Nunn's May Campaign
NUNN FOR AMERICA!

May 2nd, 2007: Announcement Speech in Macron Georgia

"I am a proud Democrat, so is many Georgians even if they didn't vote for Gore and Clinton. I am a moderate, so is many parts of the country. I believe in a balanced budget and lowering taxes for americans, like you. I believe in a america, where they can provide for their citizens and protect them. I helped destroy nuclear weapons and I support destroying nuclear weapons with China, Russia, Pakistan and India. Despite my earlier views, I support LBGT rights, and I believe in the importance of climate change, and for the future of our country, while making jobs. Most americans want jobs, and the Democrats are the party of the people!

May 3rd to 8th: Campaign in South Carolina, should Senator Nunn get first or second or a high third, he will stay in the race.

"I will fight for the average person! I will pledge to lower your taxes and support civil rights! I support the 2nd Amendment but I support background checks to prevent lunatics from getting guns. Now that is moderate policy, which can change the nation for the better!

May 9th to 15th: Campaign in Iowa for farmers

"Farmers are important for the economy, and for the life of humans. That is why we should subsidize farmers over big agrocorperations like Tyson. I trust farmers which actually care for their animals over the big agrocorperations which use factory farms! This is why I will increase subsidies for independent farmers!"

May 17th to 20th: Campaign in New Hampshire for moderates

"I'm a moderate, so is most of america, we don't want radical change, we want good change, so Gay Marriage is a good change, so is background checks. I support a plan which is non partisan which is like Romneycare, unlike that, everyone can have it if they want, they can have private insurance."

May 20th to May 28th: Campaign in South Carolina

May 29th: Announce the new headquarters in Macron Georgia and in Charleston South Carolina

May 30th to 31st: Campaign in Georgia for Vernon Jones for his senate campaign

"Vernon Jones is a moderate, so am I, and this is why I support Vernon Jones for Senator.

Senator Sam Nunn is a moderate voice for america.

Sam Nunn can work with Republicans in many areas. In fact, Sam Nunn has been called the "best voice for america" from a Republican Senator

Sam Nunn has won by huge margins in Georgia, a state which hasn't gone Democratic since 1992. (Ads are like this)

This month continued the stumping across the Western US, but ended with a campaign swing through much of the Midwest/Rust Belt region. The campaign look forward to further spreading it's map in the coming weeks. Paul has already campaigned in 30 states in just two months, more than anyone else so far.

Sam Nunn's Speech Attacking Bobby Jindal and Ron Paul

Georgia isn't the birthplace of conservative values, it is a moderate state, unless you are racist and consider segregation, which I oppose, and it has no place in a 21st century society, even a 20th century society. Governor Jindal, I demand that you apologize for calling Senator Clinton's criminal reform plan in your own words, "She wants to release all non-violent criminals from prison." That is blatantly false, and you know it. I oppose parts of the Senator's plan but I know that she doesn't support what the Governor says. As for Congressman Paul, without a government, our society would fall into anarchy, and Congressman Paul supports the confederacy, which is unamerican.

Senator George Allen’s response to the attacks by Senator Nunn[

Senator Nunn, I’ve known you for a number years. Your attacks on Governor Jindal and Representative Paul are down right false. You’ve embraced the unconstitutional stance of the activist judges, and become another crony to President Gore and the Socialist Democrats in New York, Washington, and Los Angeles. Sir, do not attack hard working, freedom loving, patriotic Americans like Governor Jindal, and Representative Paul. We may not agree on all of the issues, but both are friends of mine, because Senator I believe in a decency in politics that you clearly have abandoned with your Socialist principles, and your radical social agenda, which includes trampling over traditional marriage. Your claim that Congressman Paul supports the confederacy, is baseless and in my opinion deeply offensive Senator. You should apologize to both Congressman Paul and Governor Jindal.

I am not a socialist. I am a Democrat. I have been elected in Georgia and have been praised by Senator Warner, your fellow Senator, who is a moderate like me. I support the ending of nuclear weapons so that the world doesn't fall to nuclear warfare. Governor Jindal closed rural clinics that help many Lousianians, every day, and supports cuts to Social Security and Medicaid. Representative Paul is a radical who wants everything to be owned by corperations. On Gay Marriage: Since when did supporting Gay marriage, allowing two people who love each other to marry, is a radical social agenda. I read the bible, and it didn't even say anything about homosexuality in the original bible and many christian martyrs are gay.

Senator Nunn if you were so supportive of homosexual marriage then why did you vote for the Defense of Marriage Act? Marriage is and will continue to be between one man and one woman that is the way the founding fathers intended it to be, and that is how it will continue to be, you keep making baseless attacks against Governor Jindal and Congressman Paul. In the United States, we need to defend marriage, because the sanctity of that holiest and important ceremony is under threat Senator. Representative Paul and Governor Jindal while they oppose me in this primary, are patriotic, red-blooded Americans, who want to see America continue forward with lower taxes, fewer regulations, and our traditional family values. Your radical left-wing agenda is not approved by the American people, and it is frankly terrifying you identify yourself as a moderate because it shows just how far left the Democratic party has sled to Socialism and the disrespect of our founding fathers and constitution.

I have since changed my mind and I have regretted supporting the Defense of Marriage Act. The Founding Fathers aren't perfect, and that is why we have added more laws and amendments to the US constitution, and times have changed. The Founding Fathers seperated ethics from morality, unlike you did. Ron Paul is a radical, and he has opposed the Authorization of Use of Military Force after 9/11, opposes government influenza inoculation programs, and many more radical ideas.

Governor Fletcher Denounces Democrats Opposing Traditional Marriage

Quote
Excerpt

There is a serious, concerted effort from out-of-touch politicians to redefine marriage. Sam Nunn and other Democrats are fighting against one of the most fundamental building blocks of society. Not only is the sanctity of marriage a basic fundamental of society, it is routed in the principles of faith that we founded our nation upon in 1776 that our rights are endowed by God, not government, and ultimately, it is faith, all faiths, that declares marriage as one man and one woman. History has taught us that the commitment of a husband and a wife to love and to serve one another promotes the general welfare of children and the stability of society. Marriage cannot be cut off from it's cultural, religious and natural roots without weakening this good influence on society. Defining marriage as it's natural definition serves the interest of every American citizen, regardless of race, class, sex or nationality. Nobody in Kentucky wants this push for the marriage redefinition imposed upon us by activist judges or out-of-state politicians, neither do people in other states.

Brian Schweitzer Supports Partial Birth Abortion Ban

At a roundtable in rural Iowa, Brian Schweitzer declared his support for a Partial Birth Abortion Ban. The position is universally popular amongst Republicans, less so among Democrats but its still an issue where most agree. The procedure is not very common, but it is not very popular either. In rural Iowa, home to many "ancestral Democrats" and moderates in the party, the Governor of Montana said, "I believe in a woman's right to choose, however, I just know, and so do ya'll that this just ain't right, and Americans, heck most Democrats agree." Brian Schweitzer's website lists his opposition to Partial Birth Abortion, with an exception for the mother's life being at risk. This proposal is aimed to appeal to wide swaths of moderate, even conservative Democrats, while the Governor's more progressive economic and healthcare policies are meant to appeal to liberal and progressive voters. On other abortion matters, the Governor is largely pro-choice.

Brian Schweitzer Slams NAFTA

At roundtables and campaign events throughout Iowa, as well as in Union Halls in Philadelphia and Cleveland Governor Schweitzer has staked out a maverick position on trade. Free trade has become the consensus in the upper echelons in both parties, but Brian Schweitzer is challenging it. He's called NAFTA a "sellout to corporate CEOs." He's called it a job killer, and has called for it to be seriously renegotiated or killed outright if need be. He's echoed the concerns of unions, and of farmers who oppose the deal. He said in Cleveland, "it's clear folks, you go state to state, 20,000 jobs lost here, 40,000 here, 100,000 here. What we need is high paying union jobs, we won't get that with NAFTA or with NAFTA Democrats. I believe we need a people's democrat, who says yes, there is a limit on unregulated trade." He's called for major investments in public works, hiring more teachers, and increases in domestic energy production to boost job numbers. He has also said, "President Gore wants jobs, of course, but I highly encourage him to reconsider this bad bad deal. It's a good deal for Wall Street yes, but a raw deal for the American middle class." Governor Schweitzer is looking to distinguish himself in a crowded primary with maverick positions to attract all wings of the party.

Surrogate Schedules
Senator Chuck Grassley- Campaigning in Iowa

Senator Grassley will continue to campaign in Iowa, however he will instead focus on stumping for George in the suburbs of the major cities in Iowa. Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, and The Quad Cities. He will also join the 2nd act of George’s ‘Faith and Freedom’ Iowa Bustour, where they will focus on appealing to the suburbanites west of Des Moines, those in Davenport, Iowa City, and Cedar Rapids and many of Iowa’s farmers.  Senator Grassley will focus on George’s key issues, such as eliminating the death tax, his support of the ethanol tax credit, his pro-gun stance, and his social conservatism supporting the Federal Marriage Amendment, that establishes marriage between one man and one woman.

Candidate Schedule

April

Iowa

April 1-3: Hold a series of town halls in Des Moines
Quote
Donna Moss: Senator, I know people who think that you’re too conservative, and won’t represent Republicans who have more moderate views as well. How will you make sure the GOP defeats the Democrats in November if you are the nominee?

Well, some people call me too moderate, some people call me too conservative. I'm just a conservative who wants to bring back our working and middle class with policies that work for the American people. I believe if we unite the working class behind our party, we will win in November because they aren't just a specific faction of Republican Party, or the Democratic party they are the majority of the country. I'm very confident in our ability to unite not just the Republican Party but the entire country.

The working class has been defeated in these past years under Clinton and Gore. More people are in poverty than ever before, we are dependent on foreign oil when we have enough in the United States, we need to tap into our resources to continue to lead the world. Our campaign's goal is to represent the increasingly disappointed middle and  working class. It's time for new policies in this country, and if the Republican Party doesn't embrace that, I can't see the Republican Party winning in 2008.

You may have people who say that a moderate candidate can win.  I believe the only person who can win in 2008  is someone who can represent the majority of the country, the disappointed working class. Our campaign is doing that. It's about protecting the people on main street, not in Washington. That's what the Republican Party needs to win, and that's what I would fight for day one in office.

April 4-9: 'Faith and Freedom Tour'  in Iowa, 5  town hall events with Senator Chuck Grassley, Representative King, and Representative Latham. 2 meet & greets.

April 11-13:   Held 6  town hall events on the eastern part of Iowa with Senator Chuck Grassley, delivered pep talk to Iowa campaign staff in Des Moines.  Give an interview with MSNBC.

Quote
Reporter: "So, Senator Allen, you have been claiming to be the candidate that is 'the one about bringing back the working class.' Can you explain why you're that candidate?"

George: "Well, I am the only candidate in this race that as governor I slashed taxes, regulations, and created jobs. When I left office as Governor over 300,000 jobs were created the most ever, but that's besides the point. The point is my policies would set the stage for the biggest middle class comeback since the 1950’s and 60’s. When I implement bold, new Tax cuts, everyone will benefit and we can finally eliminate the power the Federal Government wields over the American people, because there will be no need for it. In a few days I’m going to be launching my Independent energy proposal, where by 2015 America will be fully energy Independent by utilizing  . We'll authorize pipelines that are needed but have been stalled by the unconstitutional practices of Activist judges. We'll allow drilling on federal land land and that alone will bring 50 trillion in energy resources. Gas prices will dramatically lower, people will be getting their full check, and low income earners will especially benefit under the tax cuts that will also help to balance the budget."

Reporter: "Some of your most well-known policies are the self titled  3 a’s standing for the three constitutional amendments you would live to see passed. Can you go into more detail about these?"

George: "Well, the three A’s are quite simple, The Balanced Budget amendment, the Marriage Defense Amendment, and the Flag Desecration amendment. We require a balanced budget, because for too long has the bloated federal government spent more money than we can afford, and they’re passing this debt down to our future generations. The balanced budget amendment will assure fiscal responsibility and it has widespread bipartisan support and I am sure that it will be enshrined in our constitution. The Marriage Defense amendment is to defend the sanctity of our nation’s core values, it is my belief and the belief of hundreds of millions of Americans that marriage should be and is between one man and one woman. This amendment was actually originally put forward by a Democratic member of the House, and it still has bipartisan support so I believe we will be able to pass it. The final amendment is the flag desecration amendment, as the name says this amendment will put forth in our nation's constitution that the burning of an American flag is a crime, because those who have given the ultimate sacrifice should not be disrespected.   "

Reporter: "Right, Senator, do you think that your tax cuts will bring back the middle class, as some people have accused them of being a give away to the wealthy?"

George: "It'll be the first step to bringing it back, let me tell you that. It will not only increase revenue and deplete the deficit, but it'll also give major tax relief for all Americans. Some estimates have the revenue generated by these tax cuts surpassing the revenue generated by the bloated Federal government.. Under the tax cuts, families can get their paychecks in full with big government less of the pie, because the American people can spend their money better than the federal government can. I appreciate the criticism, but it's just common sense at this point."

April 15: Announce the endorsement of Representative Steve King in Iowa  north of Des Moines, hold a townhall and meet and greet. Following the meet and greet, tour a manufacturing plant in Ames and speak with management and the workers on their needs during the high tax and spend era of the Gore administration.

Quote
It's great to be here in Des Moines Iowa. The reason we are here tonight.

The reason is simple. Iowa has a historic, and vital role in picking who our great party will nominate, and this is a moment of consequential history for our nation. We had activists from our party begging to George , because they knew that we needed our nation's best citizens to step forward. This is what America is all about, and this is why you, the great citizens of Iowa, have a choice to make.

Do you want a President who has experience keeping us safe? Do you want a President who has worked to put drug dealers behind bars? Do you want a President who knows how to balance a budget? Do you want a President who can fight the union kingpins, and get a fair deal for all working people?

I knew you won't let me down Iowa. This is a historic moment for our nation. And we need a historic man. We can't let the Democrats, whether it's Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama or Russ Feingold keep their hands on the steering wheel for 4 more years. Because we have for too long had the Democrats steal from the American people. We need George Allen as our next President. Because we need a fighter in Washington.

April: 16-18: Hold 6 town hall events in Northwestern Iowa, focusing primarily on social and farm issues but allowing questions on all topics and issues that may be affecting the voters. These events will be held with Senator Grassley, Congressman Pence, and Congressman King.

South Carolina

April 19: Give a radio interview on WKFR 104.32

Quote
Radio Host: "Alright, WFKR 104.3, we've got a special guest today. It's Former President . If you don't know already, South Carolina will have a Presidential primary in a few months, and Senator Allen is running for President. Thank you for joining us, Senator Allen ."

George: "It's a pleasure to be here!"

Radio Host: "Alright, our questions will come from the viewers. This one comes from a local business leader. It reads: 'Senator Allen, I own a small business in Iowa. I might have to close down in a few years. What will you do to help keep me open?'"

George: "That's a good question. I have been a businessman and I have had the same feeling you’ve had. I'd like to implement across the board tax cuts, and what that basically does is it drastically lowers the corporate tax, your income tax, without taking money away from your social security and medicare. You'll be making significant gains right off the bat. The millions of Americans just scraping by will receive a huge tax break, and  It won't bankrupt the country either, when we repeal Gorecare we will expand the surplus. It means you'll have more in your pocket and the government will have less control over how you spend your money. It'll create more revenue because the people of the United States can put more money into the economy. You'll have more in your pocket overall when you take your check home. If you want to hear more about that, please look at my website www.AllenForAmerica08.com ."

Radio Host: "Thank you, Senator, here's our next question: 'The middle class in America has been struggling to pay for gas with American dependence on foreign oil, and the new environmental regulations passed by President Gore ?'

George: "These past few years have seen some pretty high gas prices. That's why I want to help see less regulations on the necessary oil pipelines authorized because when we don't let them be built, we cut off our ability to create low enough gas prices for people to afford. I want people to be able to drill on federal land. We're leaving the biggest reserves on Earth out here. If we just used these policies, we would have significantly lower and more affordable gas prices and the American people wouldn’t be suffering at the pump like they are under President Gore."

Radio Host: "And one more question: 'People say conservatives are going to cut social security, will you cut my social security funding?'"

George: "Absolutely not. I will defend social security and medicare funding. I believe we have a moral responsibility to protect our seniors and other social security recipients. In Fact, we’ll remove Congressional Pensions because we can’t afford them, People in Congress  don't deserve special treatment. Hard working people paid into their social security fund, we have the obligation to fund them.  We need to update Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid for the 21st century we need reform not cuts. "

Radio Host: "Thank you Senator Allen for showing up, that's all the questions we have."

George: "Thank you for letting me on your show."
April 20: Meet with Governor Sanford and members of the South Carolina congressional delegation discussing the possibility of an endorsement. Also meet with members of the clergy, and the board of the South Carolina chapter of the National Right to Life Committee, where George reaffirms his position on overturning Roe v. Wade.

April 21: Campaign in Columbia  with Chuck Norris and Mike Pence, where George speaks at a church in the morning, before going onto have a major rally in the city of Columbia where George affirms his positions on the Marriage Defense Amendment, Balanced Budget Amendment, and the Flag Desecration Amendment where he announces he will be putting them forward in the Senate for a vote.

April 22: George campaigns in rural South Carolina laying out his plan  for lower taxes, the marriage defense amendment, and other goals that will lower the government's grip on American lives. When he was asked about his model for a Supreme Court Justice George answered:

Quote
'You know I hope the court is going to strike down Gorecare. The law is unconstitutional, and it's bad for America. You can't force people to buy health insurance, you can't bind their hands like this. It's everything that is wrong with Washington.

But you know what, I know that you folks don't need reminding how important the Supreme Court is. It's the longest legacy a President has. President Gore has already got few of his choices through and when we reach

People always ask me who my model Justice is; it's simple. It's Former Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. She's got a sensible, limited view of governmental power. She upheld the right for an individual to own a firearm. She's protected pro-life policies, and she's been a much needed voice on the court. If I'm asked to select a Justice, you bet I'm going to be appointing someone in the mould of Mrs. O’Connor.

And you can trust me on that; in Virginia when Democrats in the legislature tried to force through activist judges , I rejected them. I didn't care what the Democrats, or the papers said. The court was out of control, and had become a rubber stamp for the Democrats. So I stood up. I'll continue to stand up for limited Government as President, believe me.

April 23: Give an interview to MSNBC, begin debate prep.
April 24-28: 10 town halls all across South Carolina, for some he is joined by Representative Pence or Mr. Chuck Norris, for others he is joined by both men, and for some he is alone. 3 meet and greets
April 29: Give a pep talk to South Carolina volunteers and have a luncheon with conservative activists
April 30: Give a Speech as the University of South Carolina to the colleges Young Republicans club.

I have read the original bible, and I go to church almost every sunday, and not once did it say anything about homosexuality, and there are many homosexual martyrs for christianity. There is a seperation between state and religion. During my campaign, I have meet many great gay parents and I have met many great Transgender parents, during my campaign I met Tina, a Transgender parent who is gay, and she loves her kids, and I met their kids, and they were loved, would you rather have loving parents even if they are gay adopt children, or would you want the children to go in the foster cycle. I know many gay people who were nearly killed by the horrible practice of conversion therapy, and I will ban Conversion Therapy in a Nunn Administration. If you want to follow history, then women wouldn't have the right to vote and to work outside of the home. If you mean nobody in Kentucky, then why does 25% support gay marriage

Lee for America

“Investing in our Families”

Airing in California, Michigan, and South Carolina

There’s an unheard of crisis in America and families across the country are suffering because of it.

Black mothers are dying 3 times the rate as white mothers from preventable, pregnancy-related complications and are more likely to lose their child because of the color of their skin.

There’s a disproportionate toll on the health of African-Americans that hasn’t been addressed but we have a plan to end this immoral disparity affecting not only us but our children.

We need to ensure everyone in this country has access to quality affordable healthcare and that starts with passing legislation to create a public option bringing insurance to millions. In the United States of America, we cannot tolerate a racially biased system that is letting thousands of black mothers and their babies die because they can’t afford to get the care they need.

Join Barbara in fighting for a system where everyone regardless of the color of their skin has the same opportunity to live a healthy life.

RON PAUL ADDRESSES ATTACKS FROM DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES

While speaking in Nevada today, presidential candidate Ron Paul spoke on the recent attacks that have been flying between multiple candidates:

"Now folks, I'm sure you've seen and heard some of the things the Democrats have been throwing our way. It just goes to prove my point, and that is these people are trying to drag this country in a dangerous direction. I'm not going to directly respond to these attacks, because I don't want to give this "moderate" the time of day. But I will say this: Our movement of small government, individual freedom, and liberty and justice for all is obviously making the who's-who in Washington mighty nervous! We're not going to cow-tow to these looney liberals, we're going to push on and win this election! It's not the government's place to tell you that you can't buy healthcare or seek services that you want to consume! We need to send the country, and the world a message! I want to thank my fellow Republicans for standing up to these ridiculous charges, it's good to see Republicans with backbone again!"

New Hampshire, I've said it once I'll say it a thousand times, I love this state. Your independent spirit, your love of liberty, and your refusal to be defined but what others think you should be. You're stubborn and heck you're proud of it. No wonder I feel I am among friends whenever I'm here!

Quote
You know, I don't envy you folks. Every year, national media and candidates swarm and disrupt this lovely town. And I'll be frank, the rhetoric this year is just abysmal. Candidates on the both sides of the aisle throwing insults, a year before anyone even votes. I'm always for reaching across the aisle, but not just to shake the other guy by the lapels to score some cheap political points. I don't agree with a lot of what my fellow candidates are saying, some I agree with more than others some less so, but I have respect for every single one of them.
April 16- Return to Manchester, fly to Charleston

April 17th to 28th: South Carolina

April 17- Launch "Straight Talk in the South" bus tour, rally in Charleston
April 18- Town hall in Wando
April 19- Town hall in Whitesville
April 20- Speech at Orangeburg VFW dinner, with Q&A session afterward
April 21- Town halls in Cameron, Lone Star, Sandy Run, and a rally in Columbia
Quote
Friends, I've seen a lot in politics. A lot of mud slinging, scandal mongering, attack ads and rebuttals. That's not what get things done for the American people. Look, I respect ever single person who has the courage to put themselves out there and conduct a campaign for the highest office in the land. I'm running to talk about problems and policies, not party politics. I want to cut taxes, not a new attack ad every week. I want to talk about solutions, not road test another cheap soundbite. We've had enough of that over the last 16 years. It's time we had a President who will roll up their sleeves and get to work for the American people, and you can trust I'll do that.
April 22- Meeting with South Carolina staff
April 23- Meet with local Republican activist in Columbia, town hall later that night
April 24- Fundraiser in Columbia, meetings with state Republican officials
April 25- Town hall in Whitmire
April 26- Town hall in Woodruff
April 27- Two town halls in Grenville, town hall and rally in Spartanburg
Quote
You know friends, I have to leave tomorrow, but I'll tell you I have loved my visit to the great state of South Carolina, and I'll be back. Everywhere I go, I hear the same calls, for change and for leadership, and in those calls you remind me every single day why I am running. We need real leadership to move past 16 years of Democratic rule, of partisan bickering, gridlock, waste, and back room dealing. Friends, that's why I am running for President, and I ask you to join me in this campaign.
April 28- Fly back to Washington DC, rest and meet with staff

April 29- Appearance on Meet the Press to discuss foreign policy
Quote
Look, Tim, I can't stress how large the threat posed by Vladimir Putin is. This is a man who loves the Soviet Union and everything it meant for Russia. He's expansionist, aggressive, and he's intelligent. This is a man who came from the upper echelon of the KGB, who never gave up on his vision of a Russia dominated Eastern Europe. He's committed to his authoritarian vision of the world, and he represents a serious threat to our nation and our nation's interests around the world. We need to create a League of Democracies to take on want to be dictators like Putin, and make sure they can't obstruct efforts to reign them in by hiding behind a zeal for the broadest most baseless possible definition of multilateralism. These people don't give a hoot about that, they only care about three things Tim; getting power, holding power, and expanding their power. And they must be held in check by democracies united for freedom and liberty.
April 30- Meet with staff and attend to Senatorial duties

Kathleen Sebelius Airs Intro Ad, "A New Way Forward"

"I'm Kathleen Sebelius, and if there's something you should know about me it's that I've never been afraid of a challenge. In 1994, I surprised every political expert by being the first Democrat elected as Kansas' Insurance Commissioner in over a hundred years, all while refusing to take money from the insurance lobby."

"Then, seeing funding for schools slashed year after year, I decided to run for Governor and I won. Our state had over $1 billion in debt caused by wasteful spending, and the conventional wisdom said either education funding had to be cut or taxes to be raised in order for us to get back on track."

"Fast forward to now, our debt is gone, schools remain funded, millions of taxpayer dollars are saved due to audits of state programs, and taxes remained flat."

"Here's the thing, I couldn't have done this alone. As a Democrat in Kansas, you're acutely aware of the need to be bipartisan to make any sort of change in the state. I'm proud of my tenure and record of being able to reach across the aisle to put results over politics."

"I believe that this solution-driven spirit is exactly what Washington needs right now, and that's why I'm seeking the Democratic Party's nomination for President. I'm Kathleen Sebelius and I approve this message."

George Allen lays out Middle East Strategy

In an interview with Bill O'Riley while in Wyoming, Senator George Allen laid out his plan for combating the Iranian nuclear program. Senator Allen began with, "I've served on the Senate Foreign Relations committed for the past 7 years and, It seems like Iran doesn't care to negotiate, they don't care to look at the incentives and in fact, appeasement of Iran, and letting Iran decide when they want to start negotiations after they continue development, is not an approach I think is going to get you the result we desire." he later continued with, "If Iran develops nuclear weapons they are a threat not just to peace in the middle east, and peace with Israel, but peace around the world. A nuclear Iran is not and will never bee acceptable, We as Americans have a solemn duty and a moral imperative to deny Iran's leaders the means to follow through on their malevolent intentions. This crisis with Iran over their attempted build-up of nuclear weapons the most serious crisis we have faced since the end of the Cold War." Looking deeper on Senator Allen's website it can be found that his key policies include:

  • Focusing on neutralizing the Government of Iran’s destabilizing influence and constraining its aggression, particularly its support for terrorism and militants.
  • Revitalizing our traditional alliances and regional partnerships as bulwarks against Iranian subversion and restore a more stable balance of power in the region, by increasing American military and economic aid to Israel, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia.
  • Counter threats to the United States and our allies from ballistic missiles and other weapons.
  • Rally the international community to condemn the IRGC’s gross violations of human rights and its unjust detention of American citizens and other foreigners on specious charges.
  • Deny the Iranian regime all paths to a nuclear weapon.
  • The Trump administration has instituted an array of sanctions against Iran for its destabilizing activities and actions.

Among other policies, some of the key planks from the Allen campaign, include ramping up foreign aid to American allies in the Middle East, including NATO member Turkey, and Israel. In regards to Israel, Senator Allen said, "No American leader should be expected to sell a false peace to our ally, or consider Israel's right to self-defense less legitimate than ours, or insist that Israel negotiate a political settlement while terrorism remains the Palestinians' preferred bargaining tool." Senator Allen continued on his strong rhetoric in the middle east with, "We need to fight back against Al Qaeda, I think we need to seriously invest into our defense and intelligence infrastructure because during the Gore administration we have suffered heinous attacks by Al Qaeda, with the bombings at the Massachusetts State Capital and the St. Mary's Baptist Church in Laredo, Texas. I don't think the Gore administration has done enough to fight back against Islamic terrorism."

Allen presents Energy Policy

Today, while he was touring an Oil refinery in Casper, Wyoming. Senator George Allen announced to the press following his campaign, his energy policy focuses mainly on energy Independence for the United States and crushing the dependence the United States has on foreign oil. Senator Allen told the reporters, "By reducing our dependence on foreign oil and investing in domestic energy production, like oil, coal, and ethanol. We can begin to bring down prices at the pumps, create thousands of new jobs, and bring a much-needed boost to our economy." According to Senator Allen's website, we will ensure North American energy independence by 2016 by pursuing a sharp increase in the production of oil, coal, and natural gas on federal lands off the East Coast of the United States, and in the Gulf of Mexico. When asked for further comment on his plans Senator Allen said, "Today, one of the greatest problems with the United States is the overreliance on Foreign Oil. By the year 2016, we can put that reliance to an end. Over the first 4 years of my administration, we will invest heavily in Oil, Natural Gas, Coal, and Biofuels like ethanol, because I can assure that these policies will create hundreds of thousands of new jobs, across the United States, and lower the price at the pump. The first thing we need to do is repeal and replace the disastrous carbon emissions limit imposed by President Gore"

Continuing on his talking point of the dependence on foreign oil, Allen said, "In 2007 we're on pace to set a new record, we're going to import over 4 million barrels of oil at 58 dollars a barrel no wonder the gas prices are so high. This is a failure of the Gore administration because they think that the temperature of the world going up by one-tenth of a degree 100 years from now is a bigger concern then hardworking Americans not being able to fill up their cars, because of the regulations and taxes imposed by this administration. This election is about the freedom to use the blessings of our plentiful American energy resources rather than having the regulators take them off-limits." The policy also includes the abolition of the ¢4.3 federal gas, because it hurts working-class families, "The Gas tax hurts those who can't afford it the most, the working class, the middle class, and the urban poor. Under an Allen administration, the first thing we must to get the middle class back on track is abolishing the federal gas tax."

George Allen blasts McCain on Marriage Defense Amendment and Energy

This morning on Meet the Press with Tim Russert, Senator George Allen of Virginia took aim at another Republican vying for the nomination Senator John McCain of Arizona this time it was on the Marriage Defense Amendment, an issue at the forefront of Senator Allen's campaig, and something it appears a majority of GOP voters support, "Tim over these past few years the core American values that we all must share have come under attack. In the United States Senate, I have been a supporter of the Marriage Defense Amendment, because it is crucial that we protect marriage, one of our nation's most sacred instituions. Senator McCain disagrees, he joined Democrats like Harry Reid and Hillary Clinton in opposing the amendment. We need a President who will stand up to Harry Reid, and not join him in trampling over America values. I think this is the best place to announce it, I will be presenting the the Marriage Defense Amendment, The Balanced Budget Amendment, and The Flag Desecration Amendment to the United States Senate in the coming days. I hope Senator McCain and the rest of the United States Senate joins me in supporting these amendments because they are crucial for the future of the United States."

Later in the interview while explaining his newly unveiled energy policy Senator Allen took a stab at Senator McCain again attacking him on his ethanol policy, "When I am President, we aren't only going to keep the ethanol tax subsidy we will double it from 7 billion dollars, to 14 billion dollars. Some of the other candidates in this race, notably Senator McCain want to do away with the ethanol tax subsidy. I've known John for many years, and I agree with him on many issues, but on this issue he is simply wrong if he want energy independence, we're going to have to continue to invest in ethanol. Under Senator McCain's plan tens of thousands of hardworking Americans across the nation would be put out of work. Senator McCain has spent his decades long career in Washington fighting against some policies that help red-blooded patriotic working class Americans. My plan brings tens of thousands of jobs to the United States, in Oil, Natural Gas, Ethanol, and Coal. Senator McCain's plan would continue having America be beholden to foreign oil interests, if we want to continue being a 21st century superpower we need Energy Independence."

Senator McCain talks Energy, Social, and Foreign Policy on Face the Nation

Bob Schieffer 13833-083
LBJ Library / Public domain

Senator McCain engaged in a wide ranging interview with Bob Schieffer on CBS’s Face the Nation, discussing his foreign, energy, and social policy, as well as his recently released tax plan.

When discussing foreign policy, Senator McCain explained clearly his vision for American leadership, drawing a sharp contrast with the current Administration. “President Gore has failed to create the global coalition we need to fight the growing threat of terrorism and rouge states. We need to work with our allies around the world, including and especially in the Islamic world, to combat the continuing threat posed by al-Qaeda. President Gore has failed to take the necessary steps. Today, al-Qaeda continues to be protected by the Taliban regime in Afghanistan. We need to build a global coalition to take on al-Qaeda, to take on their Taliban protectors, and create at the very least a stringent sanctions regime to force them to the table. No options can be off the table. We need to take on al-Qaeda, and we can only do that when we have proven leadership in the White House. I hope it doesn’t come to it, but we can’t hesitate to act with our global allies to use military options to neutralize the terrorist threat that continues to plague democracies everywhere”. Senator McCain also discussed Iraq and Iran, and their development of weapons of mass destruction. “We can’t allow Iraq or Iran to develop weapons of mass destruction. Step one in cracking down on them is creating an effective international sanctions regime to put pressure on these regimes, forcing them to let inspectors in to ensure that they aren’t in fact developing weapons of mass destruction. Iran and Iraq, though opposed to each other, have both acted as destabilizing forces in a region that is already far too volatile. Iran is funding and supporting Hezbollah and other Shia groups throughout the Islamic world, designed to attack and destabilize Israel, but to create confusion in Sunni countries, radicalizing Shia minorities throughout the Islamic world for their political gain. Look, we have to send a clear message to Iran that this won’t fly. We need to designate Hezbollah, its political as well as its military wing, and other such groups as terrorist organizations and convince our allies around the world to do the same. We need to recognize that Iran is a state sponsor of terrorism, and it needs to stopped, and the only way to do that is to restore American leadership on the world stage. It won’t be easy, but I know that we can do it. As for Iraq, we have a ticking time bomb. The country clearly disdains what perceives as undue ‘western’, as they would put it, influence in their domestic affairs. But we’ve seen what they are capable of. Thousands of Kurds have died at the hands of this brutal regime, because they desire liberty and justice. Nothing threatens thugs like Saddam Hussein and his ilk more than liberty and justice, and we have to stand up to him and take him on when he refuses to allow inspectors in. In the cases of both Iraq and Iran, we will take all needed action, working with our allies, to keep these nation’s from developing weapons of mass destruction. If that includes military action, then so be it, but I hope it doesn’t come to that”.

Senator McCain also answered questions about his energy policy, including responding to recent criticism of his stance on ethanol subsidies. “I think ethanol is great, and I want to see more of it in American gasoline, and I want American ethanol exported around the world, but look, I’m a conservative, I don’t believe that the government gets to pick and choose winners in the American economy, and for that reason I’m not a big subsidies guy. I voted against subsidies for cotton in my home state for the same reason, and when I am President the ethanol subsidies are gone. But I believe in American farmers. By deregulating markets and by fighting for American exports abroad, we can make American ethanol competitive in the global marketplace. We need to deregulate those markets so they can compete. President Gore and his EPA have tied the American energy sector up in red tape, and if we get rid of some of those regulations, I fully believe our energy sector will be able to rise to the challenge. We need more domestic oil production, more clean coal, and more domestic bio-fuels. We also need more energy saving technology, and renewable energy sources. That’s why my tax plan has an innovation tax credit, which among other things will help to create the new energy economy of the future here in the United States. By increasing domestic fuel production through deregulation, and by creating energy saving technologies in this country, we can reduce our dependence on foreign fuel, and we will save billions of dollars in the process."

The discussion then moved onto social issues, particularly Senator McCain's position on same-sex marriage. "I have been very consistent in my position on marriage. I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman, and that's how I've voted. I voted for the Defense of Marriage act in 1996, and I campaigned across the country for state laws that codify in statue the sanctity of marriage. But that being said, last I checked I was a member of the party that in the modern era defended states rights and fought for a smaller federal government, and I believe that marriage is, as it always has been, an issue for the states to deal with. The marriage amendment that was proposed would have federalized yet another power that we as a nation have reserved to states. I don't have a habit of voting for programs that usurp state power, and I should hope most of my conservative friends would join me in defending not only the sanctity of marriage but the rights of the states as well."

Finally. Senator McCain discussed his new tax plan. "This country needs tax relief, especially the middle class and small business. Main street America is hurting, groaning under the weight of our complicated federal tax code and high tax rates. President Gore hasn't only regulated our economy to death, but he has also taxed it into stagnation. We've had a prolonged jobless recovery, and it's time for real solutions to our problems. Middle class and small business tax cuts, as well as deregulation, are the key to getting our economy moving again. We were once the envy of the world, our economy was a global powerhouse. We got there by cutting taxes and deregulating our stifled economy, and I worked with President Reagan to get that done. We can do it again, we have to do it again. The centerpiece of my plan is a promise to increase the minimum taxable income, and cut rates on the working and middle class, while increasing the earned income tax credit. I'm also going to close loopholes that the special interest groups have written into our tax code, and in the process raise revenue. We also need to have an eye on the future, which is why my plan would not only increase the research and development tax credit, but would create a new innovation tax credit to focus on creating new industries and build the economy of the future here in the United States. I have full faith in our nation's ability to rise to the economic challenges of the future, but we need a modern tax code to help get it there. Supporting the middle class, small business, and innovation is the way to do it."

Senator McCain's Energy Policy
Making American Energy Independent

  • Energy Independence: America's reliance on foreign oil is a threat to our national security, and Senator McCain is determined to move the United States towards energy independence
  • Promote the Innovation Economy: Repeal President Gore's burdensome regulations, which are stifling the development of America's energy sector. As President, Senator McCain will overhaul the EPA, and get rid of the red tape that has held up America's energy potential
  • Increase Domestic Production: Senator McCain has fought against President Gore's burdensome regulations, which have crippled the once vibrant American energy sector. By getting rid of red tape and burdensome regulation, we can drastically increase domestic production of oil, natural gas, clean coal, and newly developing renewable energy sources
  • Protecting our Environment: Senator McCain is committed to protecting our environment while at the same time increasing domestic energy production. Senator McCain believes American energy production, which is some of the cleanest in the world, can supplant less efficient and less environmental friendly sources of energy production from around the world, and in the process grow our economy, promote our national security, and protect our planet
