If you're able to log in to the Internet, you're well-off.

Bullsh**t.  It costs 10 baht per hour to do that here, which is about 35 cents.

There's probably a difference between those who log on here very sparingly and say they're not well off, and those who have racked up tens of thousands of posts saying the same thing Smiley  Anyone whose life affords them the luxury of spending several hours per day posting inconsequential messages on an inconsequential message board can't have it too rough.

I wasn't referring to myself, J-Mann, but your point is well taken - internet access of long duration and convenience is a relative privilege, though many poor people do have some internet access.

Or rather, time is really the ultimate luxury.

Don't go getting it soon either - it isn't very fun. Though you can recover (to a point) surprisingly quickly.

Umm... I wasn't planning to. But thanks anyway.

I was trying to win an award in the "random and slightly disturbing comment" catagory.
I disagree, anyways. A little chronic hunger never hurt anybody.

We all are.  I'm inclined to think most of the 'No' voters need a little perspective.

I dunno. You know how much free time hunter-gatherer economies tend to have? And while they're better nourished and live longer than primitive farming economies on far less toil, I wouldn't exactly call them well off by modern standards. Smiley

A lack of free time is more a feature of an urban, industrialised society than anything else, yeah...

Certainly.  Being 'well off' is all about enslaving other people.

I am very well off on the global scale, somewhat well off on the national scale, and about average on the local scale.

very much so. My mom is now retired and is making what she did when she was working. So that is good. And we have no debt what so ever. She only uses cash. So my life style has not changed at all with this resession. It has stayed up there. And I go to private school.

Ah, so according to opebo you're well off only because your mom enslaves people.  Wow......I didn't know you two were so horrible Tongue

Compared to starving children in Africa.. I'm insanely well off.  Compared to most of you guys.... I might as well be a starving child in Africa.

Not really.  Average, I guess.  But our combined income sure makes us a lot more "comfortable" here in northeast Indiana than it would in NYC or San Francisco.

I'm still hoping Torie will adopt me!
