I'm stunned there isn't more serious talk about Urban Meyer. If I am him, I have to imagine this might be the best school that would be "desperate" enough to take a chance on him. He could land a top 5 recruiting class at Auburn, and it would give him the opportunity to go toe to toe with the best coaches in the country, which I'm sure his ego would love. Saban won't be around forever, so Meyer could be the person that "ends" Saban's run at Alabama.

If I am Auburn, the upside is obvious. You have a good chance of becoming a perennial top 3-4 team in college football, you have someone that can go up against Saban and Smart and win some recruiting battles. And for the downsides, I don't think they are really that bad. Everyone has forgotten about Zach Smith (not at all that they should have, but it is what it is). He's never failed in college, and the problems in the NFL really were NFL problems. Tell him you don't care about the nature of his relationship and just don't go out meeting up with coeds.

I'd love nothing more than Urban Meyer to disappear from college football because I think he is a piece of ____. But I'm stunned that there really isn't a program rushing to claim him as their piece of ______.

Auburn is not a better job than Wisconsin lol, but I'd say Auburn is #2.

It depends on what you want. If you want to win a national title, Auburn is the only option. If you want a comfy position with a high standard of living and great job security you choose Wisconsin.

I feel like when you are talking "better jobs", especially from the prospective of a majority of the coaches out there, its where can I win a national title. Auburn just has a far, far superior recruiting territory that it doesn't matter if it gets Alabama and Georgia's leftovers. Those players are going to be way more fit for elite football than who is coming out of Wisconsin.

Now you might get chased out of town far sooner at Auburn than at Wisconsin, but that's a calculated risk you might take. Personally, I'd probably choose Wisconsin just because that's more my style. But if you are, say, Lane Kiffin, you take Auburn 10 times out of 10 over Wisconsin.

Yeah, assuming Urban Meyer is interested in Auburn, he'd be the frontrunner for the job. Auburn and their fanbase are desperate enough to pay him whatever he wants.

So there's now a pretty plausible path to 3 SEC teams in the playoffs:

Tennessee beats everyone except Georgia to finish 11-1. They don't win the East, because...
Georgia finishes 12-0 in the regular season, but loses the SEC Championship Game to...
Alabama, who finishes 12-1.

Honestly Tennessee's probably the odd man out in this case. They'd be behind any undefeated P5 team, but if there are enough losses, they would probably be ahead of any non-SEC 1-loss team.

The kicker is, outside of Tennessee and Oregon, Georgia's schedule really is atrocious. I actually think they have to win the SEC to get in, otherwise it's Alabama and Tennessee, as Tennessee's played a superior strength of schedule, and Alabama also has a better strength of schedule (Texas is a better non-conference matchup than any of Samford, Kent State or Georgia Tech for Georgia, and Ball State Akron and UT Martin for Tennessee).

Yeah, I could see that argument. And the CFP selection committee is fairer than any other human poll out there, so maybe they'd do it, but even they play favorites with the elites to some degree.

Tennessee might not have won the SEC in this scenario (I have them losing to Georgia, with Georgia losing to Alabama, and getting in over Georgia based on Georgia's weaker strength of Schedule), and they only have the two seed because of their own superior strength of schedule to Ohio State and Alabama, and Clemson's strength of schedule is slightly better than Ohio State.

Some really tough games this week.  I'd like to thank Terry for NOT including UMass-Uconn this year.

Air Force vs Army
#19 Tulane @ Tulsa
Kentucky @ Missouri
Florida @ Texas A&M
Iowa @ Purdue
Georgia Tech @ Virginia Tech
South Florida @ Temple - I hate to pick a 1-7 team on the road, but Temple is just awful.
Marshall @ Old Dominion
Baylor @ Oklahoma
Middle Tennessee @ Louisiana Tech
#2 Tennessee @ #1 Georgia - My wife refuses to watch this or any other game involving Tennessee.  She still has PTSD from the game where they beat us on a last-second Hail Mary a few years ago.
#18 Oklahoma State @ Kansas
#22 Syracuse @ Pittsburgh - Not sure why Pitt is favored in this one.
#25 UCF @ Memphis
Washington State @ Stanford
West Virginia @ Iowa State
Troy @ Louisiana
#6 Alabama @ #15 LSU
Texas @ #13 Kansas State
UNLV @ San Diego State
Houston @ SMU
#5 Clemson @ Notre Dame
James Madison @ Louisville
Florida State @ Miami (FL)
#20 Wake Forest @ #21 NC State

This may be the first time I've ever picked more road than home teams.

Let me try my hand at bowl preds

Fiesta: #1 Ohio State (13-0) vs. #4 Tennessee (11-1)

Peach: #2 Georgia (13-0) vs. #3 Clemson (13-0)

Rose: #5 Michigan (11-1) vs. #7 Utah (11-2)

Sugar: #6 Alabama (11-2) vs. #8 TCU (11-2)

Orange: #11 Penn State (10-2) vs. #16 Wake Forest (10-2)

Cotton: #9 UCLA (11-2) vs. #17 UCF (11-2)

Alamo: #10 Oregon (10-2) vs. #13 Kansas State (10-3)

Citrus: #14 LSU (9-3) vs. #18 Illinois (10-3)

ReliaQuest: #20 Ole Miss (9-3) vs. Purdue (8-4)

Gator: #24 UNC (9-4) vs. Mississippi State (8-4)

Holiday: #12 USC (10-2) vs. #22 Syracuse (9-3)

Las Vegas: #19 Oregon State (9-3) vs. Arkansas (7-5)

Cheez-It: #15 Oklahoma State (10-2) vs. Florida State (8-4)

Texas: #23 Texas (8-4) vs. South Carolina (7-5)

Music City: Maryland (8-4) vs. Kentucky (7-5)

Duke’s Mayo: NC State (8-4) vs. Wisconsin (7-5)

Other ranked teams: #21 Boise State (11-2), #25 Liberty (10-2)

The PAC-12 top two went to four tiebreakers which involved me picking every conference game left on the schedule (Utah beats 11-1 UCLA and the PAC-12 cannibalizes itself yet again)

What's the case going to be for the blue wall when Michigan inevitably gets run off the field in Columbus and in their bowl game (again) Is JEEEM gonna blame Sparty like he does always?

The kicker is, competition still means something.  Tennessee's strength of schedule means diddly squat if UGA beats them.  Head-to-head should always be the #1 tie-breaker.

The true chaos scenarios involve LSU winning-out and beating UGA/Tenn in the SEC championship.  That should be enough to get the 10-2 Tigers into the playoff.
