Assume that in this scenario Taft survives past 1932. The Republicans decide to nominate Taft in 1932 since they feel Hoover can't win. Despite Taft's advanced age, the Republicans believe that many people still have fond memories of his Presidency (when the economy was good). Also, Al Smith is the Demoratic nominee in 1932 instead of FDR. Everything else stays the same (Hoover is still President from 1929-1933, the Great Depression still occurs under his watch, etc.). How would this election turn out? I'm thinking Smith will narrowly win. Discuss, with maps.

Taft will get much more votes than that due to anti-Catholicism and his good reputation. Also, Taft will get even more votes if he picks a good VP, as people would then stop fearing something bad happening if he died.
