Now that Ted Budd has said no, Republicans can only afford to lose one more vote to save the bill.

EDIT:

Mo Brooks will vote no.  The bill in its current form is dead.

At this point I'll be shocked if Ryan doesn't hold off the vote.

What's the point of doing that, though?  To bring enough people back into the fold, he'd need to shift the bill significantly to the right, and therefore, completely kill any prospect it might have had of passing in the senate.

If it's DOA, then there's really no point in holding a vote because all it will represent is a toxic midterm vote for endangered incumbents.  Though I guess now Ryan is betting on the "we tried it" approach instead.

Ryan/other leadership said something a few weeks back along the lines of "We ultimately believe it will be very difficult for our members to vote against repealing ObamaCare when they actually have to do it on the house floor".

As a proud supporter of the majority of ObamaCare, it's very comforting to me to see all this opposition to the AHCA, but I still fear it could pass the house somehow.

Politico is reporting that Rand Paul thinks there will be at least 35 republican no votes in the house.

I was able to turn on CSPAN briefly and they are showing hallways in Capitol Hill filled with reporters. Some house leadership member half-ran through the group saying "Yep, we'll get it through".

I'm still scared this will pass somehow, since it's literally being framed as this or ObamaCare Forever.

Sort of off topic question:

In 2015 Republicans passed a "full repeal" bill in Congress that Obama had to veto.  How did a bill like that go through reconciliation?  Didn't that bill change regulations, add to the deficit, etc?  The sort of things that Republicans are so carefully trying to avoid now?

I'm not super familiar with the exact language of that bill, but I will note that no one was really paying attention to it since everyone knew Obama would veto it and Congress didn't have the votes to override. Hence why Republicans universally supported it - and also why it may have been allowed to bend the rules. Also, the decision of whether something fits reconciliation falls to the senate parliamentarian, who can basically make whatever decision they want (although they can be overruled by the VP).
