I'd always thought that the PIGS were Portugal, Ireland, Greece and Spain, and PIIGS included Italy :/
Three points:
a) P(I)IGS is a useful, widely understood acronym (although...)
b) GIPS would surely be more racist?
c) While it might possibly be considered racist to lump only the four/five nations together, rather than including others that are in similar situations, that seems to me to be a difficult argument to make, considering they were the worst of the non-communist European nations at taking money and making it evaporate. Certainly it isn't racist, anyway, to suggest that certain countries can't maintain an effective economic policy without other nations' monies if it is true.
