What are the single Electoral College votes in Nebraska and Maine all about?

Nebraska and Maine have decided that whoever wins the total popular vote in that state gets the two electoral votes that derive from the states senators, and the winner of each congressional district gets the electoral votes that derive from that district's congressman.  So, by winning, say, Maine, youe don't necessarily get all 4 EC votes.

Ahh right, I see. Thanks!  It seems like a very sensible idea, if it weren't for gerrymandering.

Imagine in California allocated their EV's like that.  Scary.

Confusing, certainly!

If every state had given 2 for its popular vote and the rest per congressional district, would the result have been different? Surely Gore would have taken some districts round Dallas, Houston, Miami, Cleveland etc?

We did something about what would have happened in the EV's were allocatyed by CD.  Plus, Bush won 9 more states, so he would get an 18 EV bonus...

Right, yeah. Just found that and it increases Bush's majority. Sad  Best shelve that plan for the moment then!

I think you only need one more post

Well if thats the case, Ill use that post to pose the purely rhetorical question: Why pick such a strange number of posts for a classification boundary?!
