Hilarious expectations management from the Conservatives, who have decided to not bother even attempting a campaign or provide funding for their candidates because it would be embarrassing to lose after trying: they are musing they might come behind the Greens. This might be an interesting experiment though: how important are cadre really? Because you can bet no Tory activist is bothering with this one.

RIP Conservative and Unionist Party (1834-2019).

Nah, Rasputin was easy to kill off in comparison.

Though be in no doubt, what is currently going on is most definitely not "normal".

Yeah, the Conservative Party might be useless at pretty much everything else it tries to do, but self-preservation is its one great talent.

(Also, it's pretty easy to see the party rebounding under a Corbyn government for instance, casting off the Cameron and May legacies and probably ending up back in government after a single term.)

Lib Dem S U R G E

I hope that this is a more fundamental political realignment, with Brexit Party and the Lib Dems becoming the 2 main parties.

I think it's more likely that the Tories co-opt the values and principles of the Brexit Party (Boris will help with that) with its base in the middle class Midlands and Labour becomes a London-centered globalist liberal party, essentially co-opting the LibDems. The Cameron-inspired centrism of the Tories and the left-wing Corbynism of Labour will probably seem a blip on the radar screen of British political history, with Brexit just accelerating this alignment by forcing each party to choose where it stands with regards to the liberal order.

Yeah... dunno about that. It's far more likely Labour will continue to go down the far-left rabbit hole. In any case, if the actual Lib Dems re-establish themselves (will believe it upon seeing it) Labour trying to co-opt that position would be a bit of a fools errand, given their lack of credibility over the last three years or so on the issues that matter in that position.

I agree the Tories will go down the route of trying to emulate The Traitor. How much success they'll have there is very much up in the air, but then again, isn't everything these days?

Never mind complex sets of issues... you honestly think there's anything that will make the current Labour membership become even slightly less left-wing, never bloody mind embracing a Lib Dem position?

No, it will definitely require new leadership.

The next leader will be just as, if not more, left-wing than Corbyn lol

this is extremely unsurprising. Heck, I wouldn't be bowled over if Labour are lower than the Greens there.

It's their leader's seat though.

Yes, but the voting patterns in this very odd election won't even come close to translating to a general election (despite how hilarious and wonderful it would be if it did). All it would be is exceptionally embarrassing and be indicative of bigger problems elsewhere, which frankly was always likely to be the prognosis for Labour from this election.

BritainElects is a Twitter account. What's the source here?

Apparently it’s based on turnout figures thus far. Nothing based on exit polls or results at all.

i.e just a glorified guess
