Deep down, I'm quite sure he supports gun control and a new assault weapons ban, though as usual, the politics comes first.

I support an AWB as well......gun toting old prick that I am.  But in the last 4 years the AWB and other gun control issues haven't been at the top of anyone's radar and he's not going to open the door to begin the discussion.

I think he will do exactly the same (nothing) if he's re-elected.

I think the answer to mitty's question though, is, techinically, no.

2.  obama said recently that he wants to keep assault weapons out of the hands of 'criminals'.   nice choice of words...what about keeping them out of the hands of private citizens?  

Why would you want to do that?

So they don't go on a murderous rampage.

     Which they could just as easily do with functionally identical non-assault weapons, if that's what they wanted. The gun control crowd is probably the most hilarious aspect of modern American liberalism.
