I'd vote for Stevenson, but Nixon would win.

I supposes he chooses Johnson as VP. There is no dixiecrat candidate.

In this case, with an Adlai still not alineating the Deep South, a Nixon/Lodge ticket would do way better in the Northeast.

Without hindsight: Definitely Nixon.

I might even have considered Nixon over Kennedy that year without hindsight. I honestly never liked the Kennedys so much and thought Nixon was a more competent and experienced candidate that year.

Stevenson.

Stevenson would have carried NY State, IMO.

I'd probably vote for Nixon; he'd definitely win the election. Kennedy was a far stronger candidate than Stevenson ever was, and even he just about eked out a victory.

One question is who Stevenson selects for a running mate. If it's not Johnson, then TX certainly votes Republican and Nixon's EC victory would be decisive fs.

Stevenson could take Ohio in place of TX easily tho.

I'm sorry, what? You'd support Nixon if you knew about Watergate...but you wouldn't support him if you didn't? Kinda seems counterintuitive ngl.

Nixon got way more paranoid after his 1960 loss. Watergate doesn't even play into my assessment here except indirectly. Imo it's a total non factor in this scenario and we're dealing with an alternate universe anyway.
My instinct is to vote for the Democrat generally speaking but some things can override that. Post-1960 Nixon had skills he share with pre-1960 Nixon and which were good in an executive so him winning in 1960 is a good opportunity to benefit from this while avoiding the Nixonite paranoia that came into play after '68. So with hindsight, yes I would, by a hair, support Nixon.
And it's not like Rs are ever going to have Congress anyway.

I disagree, a Nixon victory in 1960 would have been preferable in hindsight, regardless of his opponent...considering what happened in Dallas...
