My picks this week look like the Hindenburg. But I’m always happy to see Alabama lose. Smiley

WEEK 10 RESULTS

On a day of upsets, Illiniwek took first with a strong 17-8, two games ahead of Dereich and Donerail (the D-line?).  Full results:

17 Illiniwek
15 Dereich, Donerail
14 ExtremeR, Terry
13 Harry, ultraviolet
12 GeorgiaModerate, JGibson
11 Grumps, NY Express

There were four unanimous picks:

Tulane-Tulsa
Purdue-Iowa (wrong)
Virginia Tech-Georgia Tech (wrong)
San Diego State-UNLV

And also four games with a single dissenter:

Texas A&M-Florida (dissenter was right)

Hugh Freeze should lobby to become an SEC coach by getting Liberty an invite to the conference. They could be a real CFP contender if they got invited.

I think UCF would be ahead of Liberty, and at least one more Texas school (probably Baylor or Texas Tech) would be ahead of UCF, and some two-school combination of North Carolina, Duke, Wake Forest and NC State would be ahead of the Texas schools if the SEC were to expand again.

I think the ideal SEC expansion would be North Carolina, Duke, Clemson. Clemson for the football eyeballs, North Carolina and Duke to lock up North Carolina, and provide Basketball competition for Kentucky (who needs the in-conference competition).

I don't think having enough in-conference competition is an issue for Kentucky.

2021-2022 SEC basketball standings (top 5):

1. Auburn
2. Tennessee
3. Kentucky
4. Arkansas
5. Texas A&M

2020-2021:

1. Alabama
2. Arkansas
3. LSU
4. Tennessee
5. Florida
   :
8. Kentucky

2019-2020:

1. Kentucky
2. Auburn
3. LSU
4. Mississippi State
5. Florida

2018-2019:

1. LSU
2. Kentucky
3. Tennessee
4. Auburn
5. South Carolina

2017-2018:

1. Auburn
2. Tennessee
3. Florida
4. Kentucky
5. Missouri

Virginia's first two passes of the game resulted in pick-sixes.  I wonder if that's ever happened before.

538's playoff predictor has six teams with a realistic chance (> 40%) to make the playoff, followed by a big dropoff to a group of three with 10-15% chances.

88% Georgia
66% Ohio State
50% TCU
47% Tennessee
44% Clemson
41% Michigan
14% LSU
13% USC
10% North Carolina

Coastal Carolina (Coastal Carolina really should be the top Group of Five team in the playoff rankings. It's just their absurdly weak schedule holding them back)

If they played a better schedule they might well have a worse record.

Also, you're missing a game.

Yes, it was.

The Coastal Carolina at Virginia game has been canceled following the shootings involving the UVa football team.  The pick'em will have 24 games this week.

TCU escapes, and that's the only word for it, Baylor with a 29-28 win on a last-second FG.

ExtremeRepublican took first with 19-5, two games ahead of Harry.  There were only 24 games this week because the Coastal Carolina-Virginia game was canceled.  Full results:

Virginia Virginia Tech cancelled, should we replace it?

A few options:

Michigan State-Penn State
Kansas-Kansas State
Purdue-Indiana

I suspect everyone would pick Penn State in the first game, so if there's a replacement it should be one of the others.

North Carolina (which is having a bad day in both football and basketball) lost to NC State in double OT when they missed a short FG that would have sent it to a third OT.
