US Capitol rioter gets 5 years in jail after throwing fire extinguisher at police

Quote
A Florida man who enthusiastically attacked police at the US Capitol on January 6 with a fire extinguisher, a wooden plank and a pole was sentenced to more than five years in prison on Friday, the longest sentence for a Capitol rioter thus far.

Robert Scott Palmer is the first person to be sentenced for the felony of assaulting an officer with a dangerous weapon. His 63-month sentence could set a benchmark for the more than 140 others who face the same charge.

"Every day we are hearing about reports of antidemocratic factions, people plotting potential violence in 2024," District Judge Tanya Chutkan said as she handed down the sentence. "It has to be made clear that trying to stop the peaceful transition of power, assaulting law enforcement, is going to be met with certain punishment. Not staying at home, not watching Netflix, not doing what you were doing before you got arrested."

A perfectly fair punishment. People who committed violent acts on 1/6 deserve to have the book thrown at them.

Only Rick Perry could push for ignoring the legitimate outcome in a state that Trump actually won.  (The states he mentioned in the text are Georgia, Pennsylvania, ....and North Carolina.)

Even junior knew this was **** that needed to be condemned ASAP.

Trump is the same as Mussolini after the March on Rome or Hitler after the 1923 Beer Hall Putsch. The fact that Trump isn't rotting in jail is deep stain on the American justice system.

Yes, but 95% of republicans don't care because the real threat to freedom in this country is of course from CRT and having to sometimes wear a piece of cloth over your face.

As I said before this Commission is gonna be framed as a failure and not influence the 22 Midterm one but unless it produces an indictment of Trump himself, and on MSNBC they said there is not any Grand Jury empanelled but the FBI which is largely R said Trump didn't do anything wrong because his actions are Mob Action, he didn't directly hurt anyone and most of the insurrection that didn't hurt anyone got 9o days/6 mnths imprisonment

It's not worth the DOJ or FBI time to empanel a Grand Jury for 6 mnths imprisonment of Trump but DAs in NY is looking into Trump wrongdoing but that's up to a yr in jail and he would be out before 24 Anyways, just his Rep would be ruined

He wouldn't be able to run, he probably loses anyways but he will be leader of the R party still

Those are the cold hard facts of this Insurrectionists Commission

Give GA and PA to Trump and NC to Biden, you still end up with a Biden win.  Well, Trump never hired the smartest people.

Good point here:

I remember thinking the same thing, when he decided to exclude any of his cult-GOP members on the committee. McCarthy had his little childish tantrum, and now he, trump, and their allies will pay.

Another one.

January 6 rioter gets nearly four years in prison for assaulting police officer

Quote
An Ohio man was sentenced to 46 months in jail for assaulting a police officer with a dangerous weapon in a tunnel at the US Capitol on January 6.

During the Capitol riot, Devlyn Thompson helped move police shields up a line of rioters in the tunnel, attempted to throw a speaker at police officers -- which ended up hitting and injuring a fellow rioter -- and eventually hit a police officer in the hand with a metal baton, according to court documents.

...

Judge Royce Lamberth of the federal district court in Washington, DC, said that while Thompson "deserve(d) credit" for his early cooperation, he couldn't "see a justification for going below" sentencing guidelines.

"The violence that happened that day was such a blatant disregard to the institutions of government," the judge said before handing down the sentence.

If that's your wish for this man's eternity, what is your wish for the BLM folks that burned police cars and injured law enforcement officers?  Please tell me what God ought to do with them.

81-year-old US Capitol rioter sentenced to three years of probation.

An 81-year-old Army veteran was sentenced to three years of probation on Tuesday for illegally breaching the US Capitol on January 6.
Gary Wickersham, one of the oldest of more than 700 people facing charges related to the Capitol riot, will also have to pay a $2,000 fine and $500 for damage done to the building.

Here is another one.
He should consider himself lucky with just probation.

Amusing bit:

Judge Royce Lamberth, 78, who noted that Wickersham is "the first defendant I've had that's older than me in quite some time."

Predictably, Perry has declined to cooperate voluntarily.  The question now is whether the committee will attempt to subpoena a fellow member of Congress.

Not that I know of, but I wouldn't swear that there never have been.  I know that some staff members of sitting Congressmen have been subpoenaed in the past and testified.

That's what I thought.  But he's declined so we will see what's next.
