Right wing Dixiecrat, hated FDR, coined the phrase "the Vice Presidency isn't worth a bucket of warm spit" (the press corps changed the original line's "bucket of warm piss" to something printable) and constantly tried to undermine FDR.  FDR eventually got sick of it and replaced him with the equally problematic from the other direction Henry Wallace.

There's a lot of alt-history stuff about what would've happened if the assassination attempt in 1933 on FDR had succeeded and the right wing John Garner became President instead of Roosevelt.

Dwight Eisenhower was born in Texas
George W Bush was born in Connecticut

I understand leaving George W Bush on because he was Governor, but why isn't Eisenhower listed for both his wins?

Yes. Just look on the website. It says Texas is Bush Sr.'s home state.

1960(W), 1964(W), 1980(W), 1984(W), 1988(W), 1992(L), 2000(W), 2004(W)…2012(?)

Texas is currently 7-1 (counting 1988 as a victory because the winning ticket headlined a Texan while the losing ticket had a Texan in the VP slot)

lesson:  Don't Mess with Texas

Someone may have brought this up before, but I believe Eisenhower and Johnson were the only presidents born in Texas.  Both Bushes were from New England.

Again, Home State =/=Birth State.

The Bushes were born in Massachusetts/Connecticut, but next to their names is R-TX, therefore they are Texans

sure, and it's the illinois license plate, rather than the kentucky one, that says "Land of Lincoln"

I was just pointing it out a fact--and mostly because I didn't see 1952(w) on the list.  I should think that would help jmfcst's case, not hurt it.

Incidently, Bush the Elder claimed to be from everywhere.  When he was in Texas, he played up the fact that he was from Texas.  When he was in New England, he played up that angle.  At one point there were about eight states he claimed, or that claimed him.  Bush the Younger didn't even mention the fact that he was born in Connecticut, or went to high school in Connecticut, or attended Yale, when he gave campaign speeches in New England.  What a difference just 12 years makes!

Anyway, just call me 12th man.

Funny thing, I asked you the same thing about 6 years ago.  As I recall you're a cougar.

Texas is a good school though.  I would have liked to have gone either to Texas or USC.

...besides, Texas exists for the mere purpose of causing trouble and provoking envy.

So...

Blame it on Texas
Dont blame it on me

A damned fine school.  Brother Jeb was a Longhorn, you know.  Not sure why he didn't carry he didn't carry on the Yale family tradition, though.

I haven't read the whole thread, but it reminded me of that old quote about Sam Rayburn...

Rayburn's congressional colleagues gave him a car in 1947. It bore a plaque that read "To Our Beloved Sam Rayburn--Who would have been president if he had come from any place but the South."

he had a whole list, it was a running joke he used on the campaign trial: "[Since the Misses took a dump while passing through this state back in 1843, Barbara and I call this state home, too...]"
