I predict this will be the shortest caucus/primary day thread of the season thus far.

I expect the primary to be called for Romney shortly after polls close. Hopefully turnout is up from 2008.

First results & the Exit Poll numbers can be expected shortly after 7pm EST (1am Europe).

Results will start from 7pm, but they won't release the exit poll until voting ends in the panhandle at 8pm.  At least, they won't release the topline exit poll numbers until then.  Individual crosstabs from the early exits could be released as early as 5pm.

Will they wait to call the race until the panhandle has voted, as well, are will they go ahead and call it after the peninsula is finished voting?

They won't call the race until the panhandle has voted.  This is the way it's been since the post-2000 reforms.  After the fiasco of the 2000 election, the networks all promised to stop calling states until all the polls had closed in the whole state.  They also don't release the full exit poll until all the polls have closed in the state.

So, the race won't be called until 8:00 pm EST/7:00 pm CST at the very earliest.

On another note, what are the weather conditions throughout the state today?  Will that smoke near Gainesville be a hindrance at all, or just an inconvenience?

I live just west of Gainesville- I don't think it will be a problem. I am headed out to vote shortly and will let you know about crowds...

Ijust voted- I was the first voter of the precinct which covers most of Newberry and the rural surroundings...we are about 20 min away from the colleges in Gainesville but much different. There were about 5 other people who came as I was signing in and voting, 2 of them from my church

I am pretty sure my precinct will go for Gingrich- not sure about Alachua County as a whole since the colleges throw us off

Something else:

PPP doesn't know yet if they'll do NV, MN and CO caucus polls because they "are hard to poll".

If something's hard to poll, then it's not worth polling it.

I'm predicting a clear Romney win and Gingrich ahead of Ron Paul. Santorum will get enough of the conservative vote to give Romney a much stronger lead than he would get if it were just Romney and Gingrich.

The percentage of registered voters who early voted was far from uniform throughout the state.  Unfortunately, the state's aggregate numbers don't separate Republicans from Democrats.  But the percentage of RV who early voted was in double-digits in some counties, including Collier (Naples), which bodes well for Romney.

Sumter and Marion counties lead the state.  Sumter is home to a huge retirement community called The Villages, America's friendliest hometown.   Marion is home to some Villages spillover and Ocala.  Both are northeast of Orlando, south of Gainesville.

Washington County in the panhandle also barely edged into double digits.  Gadsden, also in the panhandle, came in at 9%.

317,770 early votes were cast.
