The fact that she meant this literally is what makes it a bit dumb, but her point tying citizens' socioeconomic situations to crime is not all that unreasonable, especially in the midst of this pandemic and how poorly our society has fared during it. Obviously not every crime is shoplifting, and I think she knows that, but worded it poorly.
But congratulations, right wingers, Ocasio-Cortez finally said something taken in context that is deserving of minor criticism! You did it! Bring out the champagne and confetti!
