Anybody remember Vernon Robinson in 2004 who ran for the U.S House with the slogan "Jesse Helms is back...and this time he's black!"

I think Mark Robinson is even loonier than Vernon Robinson.

The state is probably too polarized for an actual landslide, I could see Stein winning by a similar result as Cooper did in 2020. Robinson is basically Mastriano on steroids. I wonder how much of the black vote he will get. I can't imagine that much. The guy literally called for African Americans paying reparations for being liberated of slavery, which is one of the most ridiculous things I ever heard.

A decade ago, this type of statement would've killed any campaign.

Mark Robinson believes women shouldn't vote?

They'll show him how they vote in November.

It still kills any campaign in a competitive race that isn’t Trump’s.

Someone on Twitter correctly pointed out that he wouldn't have been able to vote either in the time that women weren't able to vote. It's really delusional to want to go back to a time when you would have had no rights either. Does he think he would have been an exception?

One recurring theme of the Trump age is that non-Trump politicians can't get away with what he gets away with, including Republicans.

I have doubts. If you're a Democrat yes but a Republican no.

Yeah, I have a hard time imagining Robinson wins this. It won't be a PA-GOV blowout, but Stein is favored. Stein also has way more $$$ than Robinson does too.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. We've already seen that Trumpism without Trump simply doesn't work. Just ask Mastriano, Majewski, Lake, Masters, and every other ultra-MAGA, 2020-denying Republican who said batsh**t crazy things on the campaign trail and suffered noticeable electoral consequences for it

Trump has a very odd appeal that grants him the immunity to say and do whatever he wants without suffering any significant political damage; an appeal that hasn't been replicated by any other Republican politician yet. It would be a mistake to assume that appeal has extended to the entire party when it evidently has not.

The clip I see the most on Twitter was cut off weirdly abruptly so I watched the statement in a longer context... just a really bizarre thing to say. His whole point was that the Republican Party was historically a force for good/justice. Not only is that a really dumb point to make but this is a really, really idiotic way to frame that point.

I'll take it though if it increases the odds of Stein winning.

I expect that Mark Robinson self identifies as white.

I hope with every fiber of my being Stein wins (and I think, in the end, he will), but I'm not holding my breath until I have a reason to.

Yeah I agree with the sentiment that Stein is favored, but I'm not so sure about comparisons to PA-Gov '22. PA is far more familiar with voting Dem in recent elections and while I think Robinson is a uniquely bad candidate and Stein is about as good as it gets for NC, I don't think we're going to see a blowout here. Stein will (hopefully) win by 3-4, but it's going to be too close for comfort for a while.

The comparison to PA-GOV is just a general one, not a numerical one. The point being "A+ Dem AG candidate who is well liked vs. disaster Republican candidate"

That's fair enough, it is quite a remarkable parallel. Governor Josh S supremacy 🤝

Stein and Shapiro would be really smart to team up.

NC has been extremely inelastic as of late. This race will be closer than it should be, but Stein has a good chance of winning given how crazy his opponent is.
