Richardson is hispanic, so he is out.  A black and a hispanic will not work.

Why not?

Because the whole point of an election is to win it, not lose.

A lot of whites think Richardson is white, so I don't know whether that really matters.  But all I can see Richardson doing is securing New Mexico. 

The reason why you don't pick Richardson is b/c of the skeletons in the closet.  But it's quite likely that Obama's bribe to Richardson was VP (bribes are the only way I know of to get him to do anything - Carville is right in an odd way there), so that won't matter for the time being.

In this era where illegal immigration is a top issue and the Lou Dobbs voters in the Rust Belt are quietly seething in their rage, this is not the time for considering a Mexican-American on the ticket.   And you say many people think Richardon is white?   Trust me, the right-wing and nativist element in this country will make damn well sure that people know Richardson is a Hispanic.

For purely practical purposes.  Voters will be deciding whether to elect the first black President, if Obama is the nominee.  Obama does not need the additional challenge to voters to elect an all minority ticket.

For all practical political purposes, Obama's running mate has to be very obviously white, preferably a white male.  

An all minority ticket?  In that case, Obama could kiss the Presidency goodbye.  Guaranteed.  That would not fly, especially with white voters, in particular white male voters.

Guaranteed, if Obama is the nominee, his running mate will be a white male.  

I do not buy in the least what some say that Obama offered Richardson the Vice Presidential nomination in return for his endorsement.  That is ridiculous, and would be a tremendous blow to Obama and to his message of doing things differently.
