There are “races” in terms of genetic lineages but they don’t nicely fit the way we have classified people and societies in the past with the same amount of diversity didn’t classify people the way we have. Roman society had white, brown, and black people in it and didn’t really have “races” or our racial classification. The Arabs and Turks also had millions of European, Asian, and African subjects too.
