I can announce you that the far right in France will perform much more than expected...

Just speculation? (hopefully?)

Austria now 100% counted.

The country-wide results will only be posted after 11pm though.

Here's a clickable map by district:

http://news.orf.at/wahl14/ergebnisse/#analyse

Greens win 12 districts (9 in Vienna), while the FPÖ wins just 2.

ÖVP wins 2 districts with more than 50%.

Barroso was right when he said France would become the Texas of Europe, this isn't just a protest vote, this is a genuine swing to the far right in France where the educated elite are mostly reactionary to borderline racist.

France has reacted to May 68 the same way Poland reacted to Stalinism.

Poor FDP. My first love has finally bitten the dust.

They should be celebrating. First time they'll have won seats to something in ages!

Marine Le Pen is still one of the most hated politicians in France...

And 5 years from now they'll be fighting with the ÖDP for the last seat.

Here's the Austrian result (this is a projection with 100% of the votes counted, plus an estimate of postal ballots which will be counted tomorrow, so there's still a margin of error of +/- 0.3%):

Turnout was 45.7% (-0.3%)

They'll probably lose a close fight with "Die Partei" for the last one, actually... Smiley

A trend of eurosceptic and/or hard-right parties underperforming? I mean, the PVV did quite badly in the Netherlands, whilst the FPO and AfD did okay but not exceptionally in Austria and Germany respectively. Not that they'll be any real 'Europe-wide' voting patterns, its just a general observation. Except France, of course.

And remember:

The FPÖ could as well go down to 19% tomorrow when the absentees are counted, because the FPÖ usually does horrible in this count.

Results from Finland can be seen here: http://vaalit.yle.fi/tulospalvelu/2014/eurovaalit/ehdokkaat_vertauslukujarjestyksessa.html

The top 13 names are the ones who currently look like being elected.

With 40.9% counted, the result is:
3 seats for Kansallinen Kokoomus (EPP)
3 seats for Suomen Keskusta (ALDE)
2 seats for Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (S&D)
2 seats for Perussuomalaiset (currently EFD, could follow DF into ECR)
1 seat for Vasemmistoliitto (GUE-NGL)
1 seat for Vihreä liitto (Greens)
1 seat for Suomen ruotsalainen kansanpuolue (ALDE)

The last seat for the Swedish minority party is very much on the line, and earlier results had them out and four seats for Kokoomus instead.

I think the main reasons why NEOS did so badly (8%) relative to their polling results (10-14%) are:

* In the debates, NEOS-frontrunner Angelika Mlinar talked a lot about privatisation of public water and waste-management (something state- and community-owned that actually works very well in Austria). She also talked about a "United States of Europe" and a "European Army". Austrians don't like that stuff, especially the centrist protest voters that NEOS attracted in the previous months - and now stayed home.

* NEOS has many young supporters. Precinct workers twittered today that young people were amongst the least likely to vote today.

Exit poll in Denmark

DF 23,1% 3 seats
Social Democrats 20,5% 3
Liberals 17,2% 2
SF 11,9% 2
Conservatives 8,6% 1
People's Movement against the EU 8,2% 1
Social Liberals 7,0% 1
Liberal Alliance 3,4% 0

With this polls the S-R-SF pact just takes a sixth seat instead of a fourth seat for the V-K-pact. This means that the Liberals go back to just 2 seats, while SF actually manages to retain its 2 seats. However, the difference is marginal, and a fourth seat for DF cannot be counted out either, although they have some way to go according to this exit poll.

What do you think that we have been doing these past years?

Oh, you meant abolish elections. Yeah, you're right, results are just embarassing, yet won't change anything anyways. Of course the case of the European Parliament is a particularly bad one.

Frankfurt has just four precincts out.

Offenbach is complete:
turnout 37.1 (+3.9)
SPD 27.5 (+6.9)
CDU 27.1 (-7.9)
Greens 14.8 (-2.8)
AfD 9.6
Left 8.6 (+2.9)
FDP 3.3 (-8.4)

So is Wiesbaden:
turnout 41.5 (+5.3)
CDU 29.9 (-6.7)
SPD 28-5 (+7.3)
Greens 15.0 (-2.9)
AfD 9.2
Left 5.8 (+1.8)
FDP 5.2 (-7.9)

And Kassel:
turnout 40.0 (+4.4)
SPD 29.7 (+3.6)
CDU 21.7 (-7.0)
Greens 19.2 (-3.4)
Left 11.0 (+4.4)
AfD 8.1
FDP 3.1 (-6.4)

So, we get the picture, do we?
Yet the national prognoses still show the CDU down 1.5 or so and the Left stable. I suppose I ought to go look for some East German partial results now. (Also, much of the country has local elections of some description or another today. Does someone have a list of which of these places had no local election in 2009? That can cause differential turnout you know...)

edit: Darmstadt
turnout 48.4 (-0.5)
SPD 26.5 (+5.0)
Greens 22.6 (-4.9)
CDU 22.5 (-4.7)
Left 8.5 (+3.3)
AfD 6.8
FDP 3.9 (-6.8)
Darmstadt, of course, has a green-black (as opposed to black-green) administration.
