I think Yang is only gonna run for Mayor if he doesn't get a cabinet position. I think he might get Commerce.

Yang is already pulling a good bit from the Yang Gang, and in typical Yang fashion has a quirky perk for hitting milestones:

I did not know that Eric Adams wants to abolish summer vacation

Squinting

I always thought having one long break for school is dumb. You always spend the first few weeks, even up to a month just going back over stuff because you forgot it in the past 2 months.

Yang is still dominating the polls, I expect him to win by a larger than expected margin.

Not anymore.
this is probably going to boost his support if anything

I honestly dont see the Garcia hype. She seems to be a pure manager, without much of a vision or sense of direction. Although ads dont mean much to me in general, her ads are content free and basically say you need to break glass to get something done (without making it about gender, explicitly at least).

But I guess in a race where none of the top candidates have really shown much vision, a good manager is OK. And in fairness, many past mayoral races have been about assembling a mix of demographics that gets to 50% rather than anything of substance.

Honestly, for a city like NY maybe a person who can manage things well is more of what they need...

My political insider "godfather"/"uncle" said that currently he still has Stringer as his #1. He knows Stringer somewhat and feels like the allegations are completely out of character for him, and thus is skeptical. I believe Garcia or Wiley is his #2.

My opinion is this: the police in this country are deeply flawed, and also have far too many responsibilities that should be in a different department.

The solution is to redirect the responsibilities (like responding to mental health issues, and some other things I can't think of) and their funds to another area. Don't drastically cut the remaining spending, but don't increase it much either. Then we need reforms to make sure mentally unstable folks, blatant racists etc are not on the force, and have a serious system of punishment in the case of wrongdoing. No "on leave for 6 months" thing. Hold them accountable and you'd see the issues of overreach dwindle.

Democrats will need to pivot hard, nationally, to be tough on crime after this. Even their base voters in the Bronx are sick of the "defund" nonsense. Electoral disaster in 2022 awaits otherwise.
Lunatic take from these results - generic wfp progressives with no details given defund stances are crushing it.
Conservative greivance politics did not work in the council races anywhere. Adams won because hes put in work in the community for decades - no other candidate could say the same.

And meanwhile in Rochester... chanting  12 at a victory party. I love it Smiley https://twitter.com/WillCleveland13/status/1407541088169213953?s=20
On the Republican side we can. Curtis Sliwa has fought crime all his life, and he has survived assassination attempts by the Mafia & Gotti. Jr.
He's also a nut and a half.

i dont think he is wrong on this

come 2022 we are definitely going to see more dems sound more like him and less like the people who are on twitter tweeting nonsense like defunding the police....
Not a lot of dems sound like twitter anyway because they know that whatever some rando on twitter with a rose next to their name says is not really a big deal

Honestly I think this result saves RCV because if Adams lost you bet your ass there'd be some big campaign to get rid of it (probably "ONE PERSON, ONE VOTE" like every other thing wanting to return to the worst voting system)

Of course Adams still sucks but luckily those downballot are definitely going to make sure that things aren't going to go as bad as they could.
