Satirizing (though probably not as distant from reality as one would hope) this obviously staged/forced taped statement from Tikhanouskaya.

Google Translate says the caption in English is "down with the mustache".

In the US something like this would lead to a DOJ Civil Rights investigation, but it's business as usual in Belarus.

The largest protest video recently posted I saw browsing twitter (I assume this was last night):

So much for the Luka #WWC Blue Collar vote:

I looked it up, Zhodzina has 61,800 residents. I'm terrible at estimating crowds, it looks like there's conservatively ~2,500 people, that brings it close to the 5% of the total population rule of thumb concerning protest success. I can see why OMON left.

Also in Zhodzina:

Well the bottom line is that if Russia is determined to annex Belarus, there isn't much anybody else can do about it. Hopefully, the prospect of taking on several million restive natives may give Putin pause.
The main question would be what the Belarusian military would do about it. Would they fight like the Ukrainians in the Donetsk basin or fold like the Ukrainians in Crimea? With Lukashenka currently still in power (on the surface at least), there's an obvious answer to that question.

Evidently Luka is tired of all these people expressing their opinions:

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-53831663

"The man who has led Belarus since 1994 said he had ordered police to quell protests in Minsk. "There should no longer be any disorder in Minsk of any kind," he told his security council.

"People are tired. People demand peace and quiet," he added. He said he had ordered border controls to be tightened to prevent an influx of "fighters and arms"."

"The Belarus chief prosecutor has launched a criminal case against opposition leaders, accusing them of trying to seize power.

The indictment from Alexander Konyuk says the "creation and activity of the [opposition] Coordination Council are aimed at seizure of state power, and at harming national security"."

Most recent BBC article:
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-53966004

"Russian President Vladimir Putin telephoned Mr Lukashenko on his birthday and reportedly invited him to visit Moscow.

It appeared to be the latest sign of Kremlin support for a president who has not always been seen positively by Russia.

But Mr Putin has said he has formed a police reserve force to intervene in Belarus if necessary, although "it won't be used until the situation gets out of control"."

Putin didn't even send a cake, smh.

EU demands release of Belarus political prisoners and warns of sanctions

"Key opposition figure Maria Kolesnikova went missing on Monday after she was seen being bundled into a minibus [in Minsk]."

"Ms Kolesnikova was the last of the three women who joined forces against Mr Lukashenko to remain inside Belarus. Veronika Tsepkalo and presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya left the country soon after the vote."

"The interior ministry said it had no information about the council members being detained."

BBC Belarus protests: Opposition leader 'tore up passport' to avoid expulsion

Now, in the theater of the absurd: evidently after Kolesnikova and two of her colleagues were kidnapped and interrogated they "accepted" an offer to leave the country. But when they reached the Ukrainian border (with a plain clothed escort of totally not police), Kolesnikova ripped up her passport and threw the pieces out the car window so that she was unable to leave the country.

"She climbed, climbed from the car and she walked proudly to Belarusian territory," Mr. Kravtsov said, adding: "She's really a hero. You must understand that. She's very dedicated to what she's doing now."

Lukashenko confirmed that Kolesnikova was arrested for "violating the rules on crossing the state border" and also mentioned "some Belarusians might be "fed up" with his rule but he was adamant that he wouldn't leave office".

In recent news NEXTA claims to have acquired a list of every Belarussian cop and will release it unless Lukashenka resigns.

This could be a major turning point.

If someone in the police leaked this, then maybe it means some police are turning on the old man.
