Honestly I was skeptical even as a kid...because I had actually seen cows on a farm before sleeping on the ground, and thought about how difficult it would be to tip something that weighs as much as a cow. And so when I found out it doesn't happen, I wasn't really surprised.

(For pretty much the same reasons my childhood self realized, cows don't sleep standing up, and they weigh far too much for a single person to tip over.)

I voted no, but really, it's yes, but like you, even as a child I was suspicious.  I had spend some time around cows before hearing the urban legend and so I knew a few facts about cows most people don't and one of those things was that cows are going to run away if strange humans come near.  Another thing was that they lay down, a lot.  Asleep and awake.  Maybe cows can sleep standing up (I don't even know the answer to that today), but they also have no problem laying down and getting back up.

Never. I grew up surrounded by cow farms and you would hear them, not see them at night. It was well known that they congregated, sitting down underneath trees when it rained which is what I assumed they were doing at night. Not standing around in a field waiting to be tipped.
Cows stand, walk and lay down like cats. Imagine "tipping" a cat. If he doesn't walk away or bite/slap you, he will fall into a laying position. Not helplessly with his feet in the air like this urban legend seems to imply. Now imagine trying to "tip" a 1000 pound cat.

I'm guessing this is something that isn't talked about much outside the US, but it's an urban legend (well actually I guess a "rural legend") that people around farms amuse them by sneaking up on sleeping cows and tipping them over. Except it's impossible for the reasons mentioned above.

I had an argument with a co-worker several months back (retired 20+ years jarhead), who was absolutely convinced crop-circles were a thing.   

I tried to convince him that it was just a couple of kids with flashlights and plank boards.  And it wasn't muhAliens, but he was like "nah".... (the scary thing is, he is a PAR analyst tasked with answering FOIA requests from John Q. Public about Area 51 and whatnot.  lol.  but thankfully, it's mostly automated)
