I think criticizing Lee's bitter response is fair but assuming it ends her campaign is wrong; this brings her attention and could polarize the race into for- and against-Lee camps, which are both to her benefit.

She's a distant third and it's now clear that her strategy for this race was to bypass the primary process. Why would any Schiff or Porter voter switch to her now?

There's been one poll in the past three months and while it does have her in a proportionally distant third, it's still only a ten-point gap between her and Porter for second with many undecided. (As far as picking up Schiff or Porter voters, she obviously doesn't need to do that right now. Pissing them off would hurt her in the general, but she needs to get there first and can do it with a minority of the party.) I don't see how anyone can look at this one poll and declare the race over nine months in advance, and grabbing free media would go a long way to Lee making up that gap.

I still think the most likely outcome by far is the Porter-Schiff race. But anyone who thinks indignation doesn't play well is kidding themselves.

The odds that the most qualified candidate for this appointment is someone holding office in California are infinitesimally small. Newsom should appoint a private citizen.

Obviously this is unlikely, but if he's insisting on appointing a black woman:

This type of article exists solely to make the Fox News base even angrier at Gavin Newsom because the GOP views him as a threat. There is no shot that he is seriously considering either of these.

The Oprah part wouldn’t be calculated to make them mad; Oprah remains pretty popular across the political spectrum.

Anyway, it would be hilarious if Markle became Senator.

Peak Atlas is that people are unironically speculating about Harris. Also the Vice-President is a member of the Senate as its President, so it would be a clear downgrade and probably leave Biden without the VP and Senate tiebreaker for the rest of his term.

Just appoint a new Vice President. The Senate isn’t currently tied.

A new VP has to be approved by both the House and Senate.

That's right; my mistake. I doubt he could get an appointment through.

The point regarding the tiebreaker still holds.
