I believe Boulerice also increased his margin a lot in 2015 compared to 2011 and if i'm not mistaken Helene Laverdiere beat Duceppe by more in 2015 than in 2011

There's a difference between "increasing margin" and "increasing vote share". Usually we don't measure margin increases, do we though? It's not as relevant as vote share.

Yeah Boulerice got 51% in 2011 and 49% in 2015 but his margin went way up because the BQ vote collapsed and the non-NDP vote was more evenly split between BQ and Liberals

Margin changes matter more in close races. It does determine who wins then.
I believe the biggest swing in margin for the NDP in 2015 was Essex, and the worst was Gatineau.

There's another exceptional case in Quebec where the NDP "held their share" from 2011: BQ defector Marie Mourani in Ahuntsic-Cartierville.

Singh and Angus would be frontrunners, but Angus is more interested than Singh. Singh also got a GQ interview.

I figured he would have waited until after the budget was released.

Yeah, it's painfully obvious that he's running. Why the doubt RB? It doesn't make any sense, other than a lack of knowledge of the NDP...

Dusseault, Aubin, Sancousy, Choquette endorse Julian. They know he's their best hope here. Julian will also campaign against Energy East.

Pressure is on others to step it up, and soon. Good endorsements for Julian, Dusseault and Aubin endorsed Mulcair and Choquette had endorsed Ashton back in 2012 (Sancousy was elected in 2015 so wasn't listed as an MP endorser)
If Ashton enters (I hope she does) that's a blow to her verses 2012; but i'd say her profile and stature among MPs is higher now then 2012.

I find Ashton to be a bit of an annoying dingbat. But i hope she runs since it would look bad not to have any women in the contest

Caron would also be solid here but IDK how he'd play in English Canada.

I am a huge fan of the work Caron is doing, Definitely hope he runs. As long as his English is good (and unfortunately some English Canadians won't accept a francophone who has too heavy an accent) But I've heard him speak, sounds like he's relatively at ease in english. I don't see why he wouldn't be able to build himself outside Quebec.

From what little I know, I think Julian or Jagmeet Singh would be good NDP leaders. Singh more for a Trudeau-esque vibe.

He does.  Although, his ability to help deliver other seats hasn't been proven yet.  The last provincial election, he spent time canvassing with/for other NDP candidates in Peel, and none got elected, although the vote share did go up.

Caron, Singh and Angus all jumping in. Mea culpa, Hatman. I'll stick to the parties I know: mine and Gritdom. Tongue

What's Jagmeet Singh like ideology wise? How would he differentiate the party from the Liberals?

Not quite sure.

In terms of Angus, there are several stance I think he's taken that may hurt him.  In the Taxi Vs Uber debate, he was quite vocal about being with Taxi drivers and against Uber.  This is not how you attract young people.  If he wants to be Canada's Bernie, he's not going to win over the millennial with those kinds of positions.

Most Bernie supporters I know are in the position that they hate Uber but use it anyway. I don't think it's that harmful to Angus then.

Charlie Angus just tweeted he is running.

https://twitter.com/CharlieAngusNDP/status/835941840679497729

"And yes, my name is Charlie Angus and I am running to be the next leader of New Democratic Party of Canada."

It takes beef to run for the leadership of the Federal NDP.
