Turned out to be a very local thing. I haven’t heard much (anything?) from the folks running for city council. I know that one of the people I voted for in 2018 is running again, but that’s about it. I’ll probably vote for him, just have to figure out who my second will be.

I find "Imagine" pretty unexceptional. The domestic abuse is abhorrent. I never cared much for The Beatles anyway except for Harrison because his philosophy on life matched my own. But I never had strong feelings either way really on Lennon.

The fire is still quite far, it doesn’t seem to be heading toward my area, but the smoke is really thick and the air quality index is almost 500. A friend of mind has left his home and went to Portland. Honestly, it depends on what part of the town you’re in. The further east you go the worse it gets.

It’s where my partner is originally from. Her mom owns a store there and offered us work, so couldn’t turn down the opportunity.

Today I have made a vow of lifelong chastity and celibacy before God.

It was not a decision I made hastily, as I put much prayer and meditation into taking this big leap. I do not view this as an obligation to restrict me sexually, but rather to liberate myself from the weight of romance, lustful yearning, uncertainty about what I need in an earthly relationship as well as gender dysphoria that I still experience on occasion. These questions have been hindering me in my navigation through both my physical and spiritual life.

So today I've made the decision to relinquish these confusions and anxieties to God, who guided me to this decision alone. I did not make this vow under the pressure of any person or church. It is my decision to abandon any remnant of sex that pervade my daily life. Even for someone who is asexual, these problems continued to linger and until today I have struggle to let go. But now they are all in God's hands. And it is God who will continue to lead me where I need to go.

I recognize that staying faithful to my vow will be a lifelong challenge, and I acknowledged that in my prayer today. My hope is that the Heavenly Father will deter me from anything that might tempt me to renege on the promise I made to Him today.

To those who think I'm crazy or mentally ill for making this decision, know that I honestly don't care. I am playing for an audience of One, as I always have, and I know that by making this decision I will be freed from past anxieties and impurities. God's light is still shining on me, and I trust His judgment more than anything else.

If it helps you find happiness, great.  As a path for particular people, I think it can work and since you've decided to pursue this path, I hope it works for you, but don't beat yourself up if it doesn't. God won't, tho God will be happy if it does work for you.

Personally, I believe that the idea that religion is supposed to lead to a life of quiet contemplation, it is one of the commonest mistakes that people tend to make, whatever their religion may be.  Peace comes from within, not without. But then what else did you expect a Daoist such as myself to say?
