Went to Tallahassee this weekend, barely ate, and drove 16 hours total in less than 72 hours to get there and get back. I remember why I left. Not only did I lose what little weight I've recently gained, but the drive has left me in really bad back pain that was made worse by the fact that I had to help my dad carry eight truck batteries across a massive parking lot to load into the back of a truck. Those things are heavy as hell. I'm in too much pain to exercise, which has me feeling kinda trapped. I guess the labor itself could count as exercise, but I'm just not holding my weight no matter how much I eat.

Are you eating 3,000+ calories a day through 6 meals (3 main meals, 3 snacks)? If you are and your level of activity isn't too high and you're notably underweight, I would consider getting my thyroid checked.

Thanks! I've been seeing doctors all summer in regards to the back pain (scoliosis) but the only abnormality besides the spine's curve, which is not even bad enough to operate on, is an apparent blockage of the kidney. I'm scheduled to see a urologist later this month, but the doctor's are pretty convinced it's just going to be kidney stones and I'm not having any symptoms at all.

I am probably just not eating big enough meals. My only real meal is dinner each night, everything else is probably more akin to a snack than a full meal. I went to publix and got a lot of food last night, more than usual, and made sure I had three meals yesterday. I'm guessing I'm going to have to be less stingy with my money and buy more food. The work I do is pretty labor intensive most days as we deal with heavy equipment, so I've been counting that as my "exercise" though on rainy days like today I'm most likely just going to be stuck in the office waiting for tenants to bring in the rent.

Yeah, you might have to force yourself to eat a bit more then. I have the opposite problem, where I have to curb hunger and fast with high intensity exercises to build up muscle and lose weight. The metabolic system is a nightmare for most of us in one way or another.

A good way to work around it would be to have some of those really high calorie weight gain shakes in place of one of your usual snacks. That should help a lot with not a lot of effort!

This.

On a semi-related note, I got "sirred" and called a "he" by my sibling at the voting booth. It was eight hours ago but I still want to die because of it. Damn it, I have breasts, and while they aren't much, they're still noticeable.

I had an interesting conversation this evening. As part of a work thing I had to interview an English language learner about their background and their high and low points learning English, and I ended up with a Venezuelan asylee called Valentina (not her real name). Being a Venezuelan asylee, Valentina had a lot to say about the role that ~socialism~ has played in her life, none of it good. It was an interesting exercise in understanding perspectives very different from my own; we laugh at the Venezuela bogeyman when Trump uses it against Elizabeth Warren or Andy Beshear or whoever, but for somebody who's actually lived and suffered under Maduro, it strikes a real, visceral nerve.

Sometimes we encounter facts - and in this example, people - who contradict our own worldview. It’s very dangerous, as oftentimes we forget or ignore them too easily, so I applaud your seeming willingness to think more on the subject.

Of course, I’ve never met the countless victims of centrism, so I may not be the best voice for the sentiment. Tongue

That is an extremely weird sensation. I'm getting it done around my back after a surgery I had. It's uncomfortable but not painful.

In other news, yesterday was my birthday. My parents got me a very cool Au-H2O t-shirt.

So I was just locked out of the forum for a month and a half on account of a glitch. I'm not actually angry or frustrated with anyone, just really, really confused.

But I'm back!

I went out to Greenwood with my dad for the first time in years on Saturday. We used to go out there almost every weekend when I was younger. After a futile attempt to do the monkey bars on the playground I always found too difficult (now my legs hit the ground), he and I walked around the park talking about the current state of the primaries, and automation. I think both of us are liking Yang more, he's in the top three for both of us.

My dad and I can usually talk politics pleasantly, but my mom's always around and she's just done with it all. She says she already gets annoyed enough at the insurance companies and doesn't need more stress. I really can't argue with that since more stress makes her seizures more common or worse.

Decided to edit out the last bit here because thinking back on it, it came off as too creepy.

This is typical for a grad student at certain times of the year, but it's temporary and heads to a clear final goal that's beneficial all around. However, if this is just your lifestyle, I would seriously consider making some major overhauls.

Tbh a lot of what people whine about in college is petty and dumb.

People are like oh the parking is so bad, it takes forever to find a spot.

Nah fam. There is plenty of parking further out. I have never had to look for more than like 4 minutes ever before. usually I can find a spot withing a few seconds. It's just you people are too lazy to move ur fat@$$e$ and park out further and walk more. Consider it a good thing. Most of you people need it. The enrollment is like 30k people, and yet I only see the same 200-300 people at the gym all the time.

The napkins are always out in the generally sitting areas, blah blah blah.

Boohoo. Raid the starbucks that is stocked with them literally 20 feet away in the same building.

The cafeteria food makes me sick and this fry is longer than my fork Sad

Don't touch the ultra weird and nasty stuff, and use your common sense. Don't eat raw things out in the open, get commonly consumed items. There are plenty of good choices. Following this basic logic, I have not had any issues so far. And srsly? Ur whining about a glorious fried stick of potato because it's too big? Get a grip lol.

Ugh, sometimes it feels like I still go to pre-k with so many whiners.
