+100. 3 Democrats running would need about 9 Republicans  (6-7of them - serious) to run for D-D runoff...

^ There are already 5 serious Republicans running, all from different areas of the state, plus several more considering.

Miles,
Is it a good thing for the LA democratic party that more than 1 candidate is running?

Not Miles, but still....

IMHO - 2 would be optimal. 3 - worse, but tolerable if a lot of serious Republicans will run. 4 would be sure catastrophe. 1? A big risk to lose to relatiely "sane" Republican...

^ Of course. You can't have a D vs D runoff if you only have one of them.

Apparently, all March 15 ballots in North Carolina will still have federal congressional races on them, though the votes will not be counted unless the courts strike down the new maps. Some precincts aren't even going to record the votes.

Angelle should be the clear favorite and thus is also great news for Boustany, who has Acadiana basically to himself.

Would you prefer Campbell or Cao?

Judging by your previous politics, I thought you'd be more of a Kennedy or Cao voter.

^ Campbell, as he's your typical southern populist.

Of the Republicans, I like Boustany the most. Ideologically, Kennedy is relatively moderate as well, but I don't appreciate the lengths he's gone to in undermining JBE (and promoting Vitter back in the election).

State Sen. Malcolm Graham is running against Adams in the NC-12 Democratic primary. He's actually from Charlotte, so I wouldn't be surprised if he had an advantage.

Greg Brannon is running in NC-02, effectively making it a three-way race. Brannon cleaned up in southern Wake County in 2014, so he shouldn't be dismissed.

Candidates for the US House in North Carolina have until March 25 to file. So far, this is the list:

District 1 -
District 2 - George Holding (R), Renee Ellmers (R)
District 3 - Phil Law (R)
District 4 - David Price (D), Sue Googe (R), Teiji Kimball (R)
District 5 - Jim Roberts (D), Pattie Curran (R)
District 6 -
District 7 - J. Wesley Casteen (D)
District 8 - Tim D'Annunzio (R)
District 9 - Christian Cano (D), Robert Pittenger (R), Todd Johnson (R)
District 10 - Andy Millard (D), Patrick McHenry (R)
District 11 - Tom Hill (D)
District 12 - Leon Threatt (R)
District 13 - Bruce Davis (D), John Marshall Blust (R)

A lot of people who we know are running haven't filed yet. I could actually see someone winning CD-2 with under 40%.

^ Tricia Cotham also filed today for CD12. I knew we'd see more of get after she announced her retirement from the Assembly a few months ago.

I don't think the NCSBE has it updated yet.

What do you guys think of starting separate threads for LA and NC? Having both of them in the same thread is a tad bothersome, especially for those who follow politics closely in one but not the other.

What a beautiful 2nd district, my god! Somehow George Holding is the most sane candidate.

Some things to note:

- All incumbents have now filed , though Holding/Ellmers have both filed in CD-02 so CD-13 is open.
- There are a lot of candidates in CD-12 and CD-13, so I wouldn't be surprised if somebody won in the 30% range or even the 20% range.
- LOL

I think this is the final list, though we should wait until 12:00 AM EST just to make sure.

District 1 - H. Powell Drew, Jr. (R), G. K. Butterfield (D), J.J. Summerell (L)
District 2 - George Holding (R), Greg Brannon (R), Renee Ellmers (R), Ron Sanyal (D), Steven E. Hight (D), John P. McNeil (D), Jane Watson (D), Elton R. Brewington
District 3 - Phil Law (R), Taylor Griffin (R), Walter B. Jones (R), David Allan Hurst (D), Ernest T. Reeves (D)
District 4 - Sue Googe (R), Teiji Kimball (R), David Price (D)
District 5 - Pattie Curran (R), Virginia Foxx (R), Jim Roberts (D), Charlie Wallin (D), Josh Brannon (D)
District 6 - B. Mark Walker (R), Chris Hardin (R), Pete Glidewell (D)
District 7 - David Rouzer (R), J. Wesley Casteen (D)
District 8 - Tim D'Annunzio (R), Richard Hudson (R), Thomas Mills (D)
District 9 - Robert Pittenger (R), Todd Johnson (R), Mark Harris (R), Christian Cano (D)
District 10 - Jeffrey Baker (R), Patrick McHenry (R), Jeff Gregory (R), Albert Lee Wiley, Jr. (R), Andy Miller (D)
District 11 - Mark Meadows (R), Tom Hill (D), Rick Bryson (D)
District 12 - Leon Threatt (R), Ryan Duffie (R), Paul Wright (R), Alma Adams (D), Carla D. Cunningham (D), Gardenia Henley (D), Malcolm R. Graham (D), Rick Miller (D), Rodney W. Moore (D), Tricia Cotham (D)
District 13 - Andrew C. Brock (R), Chad A. Grant (R), Dan Barrett (R), David W. Thompson (R), Farren K Shoaf (R), George Rouco (R), Hank Henning (R), Harry Warren (R), Jason A. Walser (R), Jim Snyder (R), John Blust (R), Julia Craven Howard (R), Kathy Feather (R), Matthew J. McCall (R), Mrs. Kay Daly (R), Ted Budd (R), Vernon Robinson (R), Adam Coker (D), Bob Isner (D), Bruce Davis (D), Kevin D. Griffin (D), Mazie Ferguson (D)

Some things to note:

1. We have twenty-two candidates now running in CD-13, including seventeen Republicans and five Democrats.
2. Greg Brannon, Ernest T. Reeves, Kevin D. Griffin, and Mazie Ferguson all ran in the March 15 primary and are now running again. Have we ever had someone lose two elections in one year?
3. Kay Daly, one of the seventeen Republicans running in CD-13, will actually be called "Mrs. Kay Daly" on the ballot.
4. LOL J.J. Summerell

^ If Brannon wins CD2, the closest recent parallel would be Marlin Stutzman in 2010, where he lost the Senate primary but won a House seat later that year.
