No special election for Gov and there shouldn't be with the one term limit. LG seems to be the only office that requires a special election when vacant, the legislature appoints the AG when it becomes vacant.

I'd want to see the contemporary evidence on the second account, but if they do have emails and letters from the immediate aftermath that are as they allege... that's pretty hard to dismiss. If any of the other three have similar evidence, I don't see how you can think Fairfax didn't do at least some of these things.

It's looking increasingly likely that Northam will survive this, and I don't believe anyone in the party has called for Herring to go. The chances of the GOP having them all resign and take control are frankly nill.  But can we perhaps admit that the allegations against Fairfax here are a little more troubling? Accusing these women of being paid off is rather insulting, especially since the first one made these allegations plain over a year ago. Unless you really believe this was a long game by the Republicans, in which case, why not use it while he was running for election?

That aside, I do agree that from an optics standpoint, Fairfax being the only one to resign from these assorted scandals is horrible looking. But what he is being accused of is a serious crime, and the party has made it clear they want Northam gone. There is not much more they can do to get rid of him.

I don't know how you get to Pub gov. If there are resignations then it all won;t be at once, it will be timed out and planned so that the line of succession never gets to speaker of the house. In fact, right now the likely path is: Fairfax resign -> Northam appoints someone who can help amend for his racisms -> Northam resigns a while later or tries and stays on.

So yeah, Fairfax definitely needs to go.
