I don't really understand the hate on e-books. I enjoy reading on my Kindle just as much; it depends on what I have.

Same here. I really don't see what the problem is. I suppose those who dislike them are also listening to 45s.

I like books as physical objects. I find them beautiful, in a way that isn't necessarily separate from the beauty of the content. I don't find sleek pieces of plastic or whatever else e-books are made of beautiful.

Paperback for novels, hardback for nonfiction. Then again, most of the novels I read are relatively short. I don't think I've read any novel longer than 500 pages in years.
That's a shame. A good epic novel is a precious gem . The best ones always kill off the main characters slowly after you've had plenty of time to identify with them. A few of my favorites: An American Tragedy, Lonesome Dove, War and Peace, Pillars of the Earth

Lonesome Dove is excellent, though I haven't read it in many a year.
