Those are starting salaries for new employees... but this is a taxpayer funded system that is badly underfunded.

No confirmation yet, but looking increasingly likely that this May's elections will be shelved until the autumn.

Postponed for a year, it seems. Makes sense to hold a bigger lot of elections in 2021.

Logistically it's easier; you're already going to be hiring the sports centres, schools and community halls etc. for 2021 elections in many places.

Possible, but unlikely.

I've never understood the venerance of Sands in that community; the man was a terrorist who committed suicide because he was unhappy about wearing a uniform.

Wasn't the current leader of SF a bit young for that?

None of us here are saying that, but this sort of stuff makes it harder for Labour to get its message across.

Also, I'd argue that at least two countries have had worse responses. They're both former Soviet states.

At least the scientist could recently claim that he's got immunity.

The front page of the Daily Mail for tomorrow is deeply bad for the government. When you've lost *them* as a Tory, you're toast.

Johnson wasn't an MP between 2008 and 2016, he was the Mayor of London...

Also, isn't the app just delayed?

On a different topic, the National Theatre at Home YouTube channel is showing the excellent play This House covering the 1974-79 Parliaments as this week's stream; it is available until Thursday.

The victims in care homes wouldn't have been saved in the hospitals in many cases; they're in too frail a shape already. The average life expectancy on entering one was is 23 months before all this.

The fact that the most vulnerable were not effectively shielded is a scandal.

E) We have a highly unfit population that is very vulnerable to this sort of thing.

The thing is that many of those cases will be of minimal or no risk to the person with... it's who they may pass it onto that is the thing.

Also, the cases do seem to be slowly coming down.

Worse in a way. Cummings could at least claim a reasonable motive in heading to Durham, although why he didn't ask his niece to come down to London instead is a mystery and finding local childcare would have been hard - one mention of coronavirus and most people would not return the call.

Duffield, like Ferguson, seems to have been motivated by baser desire.

It's not always tinged with racism. Obama is far more a proper President than Trump is.

The media was definitely out to get Corbyn, but he and others had an knack of handing them the ammunition to do it, as well as never managing to deal with it effectively.

indeed. Also, until we get the test result back, we don't know it's Covid-19; he could just have a cold.

Rishi Sunak could be used in a similar way Major was in Tory electioneering: "What have the Conservatives ever done for British Asians? Made one Prime Minister."

There needs to be a term for prejudice against a group based on bad past experiences with some of their members. Patel is of Ugandan Asian heritage and much of that group ended up in the UK because of the racism of Idi Amin and others in Uganda post-independence.

In any event, I have heard comparatively little from prominent British Asians in all of this. They're subjected to a considerable amount of racism in this country as well.

Historically, Trade has long been its own department instead of in the FCO, with a number of future PMs holding the President of the Board of Trade job before getting the top job.

It's a pity that the right didn't succeed in forcing Corbyn out, because now we've got a secure Tory government until at least 2024 and quite likely 2029.

The majority might be wiped out in one go, but Labour is a far cry from getting an overall majority, if it even survives the EHRC report.
