Although MA is a very Democratic state, the heavily (i.e. almost 50%) Irish populated South Shore is very Republican, albeit very swingy- it is a "wealthy Republican" area which swung slightly to Clinton this year, although for at least 2016 and 2012 Plymouth County (where most of the region is part of) would go Republican without Brockton, a liberal city with lots of black people that contrasts with the rest of Plymouth County, which is lily white.
