Some people say its Democratic but some of the Democrats are conservative.  It tends to elect a lot of Republican governors, i suppose to counterbalance the huge Democratic majorities in the statehouse and state Senate...  MA is the largest state (with 9 house seats) with an all-Democratic House delegation.  It supported Ronald Reagan in 1980 and 1984, and apparently there were quite a lot of South Boston residents that liked Trump, but the suburbs around Boston are extremely Democratic.

Here is a map of every town and how it voted:

I'm hoping someone knows MA politics?

That's a pretty good description there; I'm not sure what your question is?

Although MA is a very Democratic state, the heavily (i.e. almost 50%) Irish populated South Shore is very Republican, albeit very swingy- it is a "wealthy Republican" area which swung slightly to Clinton this year, although for at least 2016 and 2012 Plymouth County (where most of the region is part of) would go Republican without Brockton, a liberal city with lots of black people that contrasts with the rest of Plymouth County, which is lily white.

Conservative Democrats in Massachusetts?  I'd suspect there to be more liberal Republicans.

Conservative Democrats in Massachusetts?  I'd suspect there to be more liberal Republicans.

There are both. The former especially in the legislature. Since the Republicans in the legislature are so irrelevant, many would-be Republicans run as Democrats because it's the only way to get anything done or get elected.

The state's congressional delegation, however, is pretty solidly liberal. Lynch, Keating, and maybe a few others are moderate by Massachusetts standards but still probably on the left side of the party overall.

A Safe Democratic sate on the federal level, while remaining a swing state for Governors races as long as the Republican is centrist to liberal.

On the state level the state is Socially Liberal and Fiscally Centrist.
