McSally would be smart to hammer Sinema on her more progressive past. If she successfully does that, Sinema's entire campaign is essentially defused. She gets neither the progressive base (given her obnoxiously over the top centrist rhetoric) nor the "moderates" (given her past).

As far as I can tell, that's exactly what McSally has been doing the past few weeks. Endless ads about Sinema's anti-war past and contrasting it with her military experience. It's a good strategy, especially because Sinema is completely letting her get away with her hard right turn in the primaries without calling her out for it, because she wants to run a "positive campaign." Roll Eyes

McSally is a horrible fake moderate but she's a good candidate. Sadly, these things are not mutually exclusive.

I'm skeptical of the notion that the progressive base is not going to show up in a Trump midterm just because their candidate is running to the center. They will complain but they'll show up at the end of the day because there's still a big difference between Sinema and McSally, and people who are tuned into politics know this more than anyone.

McSally has been playing up her military background, but this is one of those things that doesn't affect most of the electorate directly. Her votes to cut Medicaid and repeal Obamacare could become more important than her military background... if Sinema emphasizes those issues. So -- I'd say she's still vulnerable.

And therein lies the problem...

There's also a really solid progressive running for Governor, so progressives won't stay home.

In case you haven't noticed yet, the media holds the Democrats to the Marquis of Queensberry rules while Republicans are allowed to behave like the drunken schizophrenic belligerent hobo on the side of the road with zero consequences, unless they're a literal pedophile (for now.)

Hey everyone heres a thread from twitter I really want to share everyone. (I suggest starting from the top)

I can honestly say there has never been a democratic campaign for statewide office in Arizona that  has been THIS GOOD at pulling the strings. Typically the GOP in the state are able to do things such as this. I suppose all the good GOP operatives in AZ are working with the Ducey compaign this cycle while McSally got the leftovers.

My parents used to make partial payments as a child. I distinctly remember the power being shut off.

One thing I have learned over the past few years is that the GOP will always find a way to go lower.

Kysten Sinema promoted events featuring convicted terror lawyer Lynne Stewart who was convicted for aiding an Islamist terror organization and its leader.

In fact, Stewart was indicted for aiding radical Islamic terrorist Omar Abdel-Rahman (who played a major role in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing) in evading restrictions on his communications to his followers, even though those messages could have possibly ordered the death of Americans. Eventually, she was sentenced to 10 years in prison. In the final event, she served three years before being released on parole after a diagnosis of breast cancer.

In the first event’s invite, Sinema said Stewart was “emphatically not guilty”.

I would not be surprised if McSally’s campaign bring this up during the campaign.

That being said, it’s a toss-up but my gut says McSally wins by between 1-3 percentage points.
