I think you're obviously right. It seems like Ford's race will have something to do with the result, whether black voters turn out in great numbers than usual or he gets less white votes than he is in polls. Ford does have the advantage of people turning out to re-elect Phil Bredesen as Governor in a landslide, no one has mentioned Bredesen's coattail effect but it might prove to be powerful. However, there is also the chance that in the final week many doubtful Republicans and conservatives rally to Corker; to be competetive Ford needs to continue targetting them. I think this internal means Ford is either tied with Corker or more likely behind him by around the same margin.
