I wish Ruth Ellen Brosseau, noted badass, was old and established enough to run.

She cried after the result of the leadership review.
In a local paper last week she said she is not closing the door on a leadership run one day but not in the short term.

Crying doesn't mean she's not a badass.

I used your quote as introduction to write about what I have read about her recently and the leadership question. My intention was not to debate or contradict your comment. Sorry for creating misunderstanding.

There is an article in Le Devoir on NDP membership. The NDP has 3170 members in Quebec, about 5% of the federal total (over 69,000).

In September 2011 there were 2700 Quebec members. After the last leadership race it got up to 14,300. In August 2013 it decreased to 4,700 active members and 3,300 the following year.

The fluctuation for the federal number: 131,000 members for the last leadesrship race in 2012, 82,000 in September 2013.

In regards to other Federal NDP leadership non candidates, when Charlie Angus stepped down from his positions in consideration of running for leader, Ruth Ellen Brosseau replaced Angus as Caucus Chair and Romeo Saganash replaced Angus as critic for Indigenous Affairs.  Both Brosseau and Saganash had previously indicated they were considering running to replace Mulcair.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/sudbury/angus-leadership-run-1.3863515

Of all the names who had been initially mentioned but not mentioned lately, I believe that leaves just first term M.P Daniel Blaikie as unaccounted for.

I don't know if Saganash was seriously considering. One year ago he said he would leave federal politics at the end of his mandate.
http://ici.radio-canada.ca/nouvelle/757129/saganash-romeo-quitte-vie-politique-npd

On Les coulisses du pouvoir year in review tv show, two of the three panelists picked for the Political mistake category, getting rid of Mulcair at the NDP convention.

The first debate will be March 12 in Ottawa.

Guy Caron says he got satisfying feedback about a leadership run and it's very possible he'll be on stage for the first debate. He will not make an announcement before February 8th.

That must be a complete review because I watched only 5-10 minutes and it was in the review.
A quick question on pineapple pizza (!). I was surprised by Angus not really giving an answer on his favorite form of voting system.

Julian also raised money in 2016 so his total would place him less far from caron.

The proposal to ban religious symbol for people in position of authority (like judge, police) don't apply to elected offcials. Since elected officials represent all people, it could apply to them also.

Interesting to know even some MPs don't like a leader wearing religious symbols.

Anecdotal evidence: heard a senior citizen seeing an image of Singh had a reaction in saying this will not pass in Quebec. He is totally unknown so based only on looks.

It really depends on the income level for the phase out on that plan to determine starting at which income you are worse than the current system. You could have a "secure pension" because you were in the civil service, have a good pension but not be excessively wealthy.

In a report on today's debate, candidates don't agree on everything.

http://www.macleans.ca/politics/ndp-leadership-hopefuls-treat-jagmeet-singh-like-the-candidate-to-beat/

- Singh’s refusal to follow the other candidates in categorically opposing an expansion of Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain oil pipeline

- Caron’s own proposal to establish a minimum income level was in turn panned by several of the candidates as being unaffordable and unrealistic.

- Angus also went after Ashton and Julian for their plans to offer free tuition for students, questioning where they would find the money.

Kennedy Stewart, MP from Burnaby South, has endorsed Singh. One of his reasons for support is the fact Singh is a visible minority.

Ex-MP Alain Giguère is disappointed the two front runners (perceived) Angus and Singh have handicap, one not speaking French with ease and the other practicing sikh, wearing turban and kirpan.

Difficult to know how many think like him but ideas include forming an independent caucus, unite in Anybody but Singh or just take a break from the party until the next leadership race.

Guy Caron received the endorsement of Anne Minh-Thu Quach, Salaberry-Suroît MP.

Angus has the most unique donors after the second quarter numbers as shown on a graph on this page. Singh is second (he's been in the race for less time though).

I'm a bit surprised since a couple of months ago Ashton and Julian were clear on their opposition to pipelines and Angus was more vague.

Angus has urged New Democrats to move beyond so-called pipeline politics. The centrepiece of his climate policy is a carbon budget that will cap nation emissions over a rolling five-year period.

On his website:
We need to be much more ambitious about emissions reductions than we currently are, and identify methods of reducing our emissions that will not jeopardize our economic competitiveness.

I guess he doesn't want pipelines to be an issue. There are concrete projects that a segment of the population opposes. That could be a way to differentiate from the Liberals with environmentaly concerned voters. I understand if you seek power you try to be more fence sitter but I thought they want to show they are more left.

I found on the 2012 NDP leadership wikipedia page that he endorsed her for that race.
