Holy sh**t, still 56-44?  Mississippi has the most boring elections ever.

Any county data/maps yet?

Unsurprisingly, my family's home county in MS [Clay] voted for Eaves, it seems.

It's majority black. Black people would vote for a jar of mayonnaise if it were the Democratic candidate.

Black turnout seems to have been dire.

But Eaves did beat Kerry in several counties, meaning he did win over some conservative whites with his Jesus campaign.

He beat John Kerry by two percent. I'm so impressed Roll Eyes

Well it is fairly impressive considering black turnout must've been far lower.
Why must that be the case?

1-Because Al said it, and I'll always believe him on this sort of thing.
2-Barbour ran ahead of Bush in some heavily black counties. Either he won over some blacks, or they didn't vote. I'm more likely to believe the latter.

Check out Claiborne County:

Kerry - 81.46%
Eaves - 75.85%

However, look at majority white Winston County:

Kerry - 42.25%
Eaves - 50.60%

Well, Harry said that he saw some blacks with Barbour signs. In any case, Eaves did only hair better among whites than Kerry did. In both elections, the Republican received the white vote nearly unanimously. I'd say Eaves's Jesus strategy was clearly unsuccessful, though I don't know how he could have beaten Barbour.

Wow! A few blacks with Barbour signs? That's real evidence Barbour massively improved among blacks. Roll Eyes

I'd like to see some exit poll, but I'd bet now Eaves got more than 20% of the white vote, possibly close to 25%.

Wow, 20% of the white vote. I'm so impressed. John Kerry got 14%. Huge improvement.

That's a 42% improvement, not insignificant.

42% over whites for John Kerry in MS. It still doesn't make much difference. Anyhow, it's not really fair to compare presidential and gubernatorial races. The Democrat just landslided Kentucky. It's not like we're going to see that in 08.
