One thing I wonder is that, even though riots will make the Democratic party as a whole look bad, might blatant disregard for civility turn off some Berners and make them a bit more sympathetic to Hillary? The Bernie supporters I know in real life probably wouldn't be too happy if his campaign (or those representing his campaign) promoted violence over the democratic process.

Also, are people talking about inside the convention hall or outside? The reason 1968 was such a clusterf*** was because of the violence inside. The "the whole world is watching" stuff helped to fan the flames, but has been pretty much par for the course for convention protests.
