Why did Hegar and Bell have a strong performance in rural counties?
Bell likely won a lot of those areas due to name rec alone.... he was on the ballot 12 years ago, so a lot of older democrats likely remember him.
Why did Hegar do well in many rural counties in the middle of the state?

Possibly because she contested a seat in that area and her ID just expanded, she is a very formidable candidate.
Right, TX-31. West did well in DFW because he’s from that area. Why did he also win a few rural counties in the eastern part of the state?

Potentially the African-American population that is in east texas, as there is a large percentage in that region. That seems to easy to use but I think it is valid enough.
That sounds right. And why did John Cornyn lose San Saba County to Dwayne Stovall in the GOP primary?
