If Palin doesn't know about fruit fly science research as it pertains to benefiting humans (their generations are just so conveniently short), then she needs to get out more.

Have we had a poll here about whether one thinks Palin is competent to be president?

Sigh, you're right.  Maybe she just skips straight through the boring Science section in the ADN.  (And, after today, the Opinion section, too)

I don't think we've had one in a while.  Certainly not competent to be the kind of president I want.

Well, its not as if her dad is a biology teacher... oh wait Sad

cinyc read this. This is the crux of this argument.

The issue here isn't that's she's against funding fruit fly research per se. It's that she's advocating allocating government funds to studies that help our understanding of neurodegenerative diseases yet in the same breathe is ridiculing studies that help our understanding of neurodegenerative diseases.
