California's elections are bullsh!t. That is what happens when you have supermajorities all across the board, and really no one to keep you accountable.

Accountable for what? Trying to make sure everyone votes?

Their terrible primary system that no one has seriously attempted to get rid of, it cheats voters out of representatives that fit their districts.

Unfortunately, There is nothing in New York Times for the critical Missouri special election. Otherwise, it would be 23.

Ah, blame that on the voters. They're the ones that wanted it and still like it. Both major parties fought against the ballot measure.

I mean, Democrats just got a supermajority back in 2016, afaik. And due to some resignations, they might even be short a vote (or close to it) right now. Newman's recall is also an issue. So it's kind of hard to use a supermajority as an excuse when it isn't nor has it been consistent.

And I'm not sure what you mean by 'across the board'. Democrats haven't locked up all the counties yet. I don't think Orange County has a single elected Democratic supervisor despite it being ground zero for Democratic House prospects this cycle.

Mind filling in my list - I'm going to be doing something similar later. I assume 8 for CA races (7 C seats +CA-50), 3 for NJ seats, 1 for Al-02, and and then the 8 main pages - but that is only 20.

Of the 4 OC districts, 17% of Dem voters have never voted before in a midterm, compared to 8% for the GOP voters.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the Persky recall fails today. I could be entirely wrong about that, but i know a lot of liberal people around here who oppose it - generally most people who are informed do.

That would be very sad if it failed.

I do not see how anyone who is not racist could possibly oppose Persky being recalled.

Does anyone know if Lisa McCormick has a serious chance at winning the primary?

I don’t get the new “oh maybe 39 will be the lockout” concern. Gil Cisneros and Andy Kim have probably consolidated enough of the vote

Okay, I take it back. Maybe recall will pass. Ugh. If it does, prepare for the collapse of California's judicial system.

Just voted in NJ after work. Went for Menendez's opponent (even though it's futile Tongue), Mikie Sherrill, the county-endorsed candidates for Freeholder, the one candidate for county committeewoman and wrote myself in for county committeeman since no candidate filed (each district within a ward elects both a male and female member, at least in Morris County). I did it just to see if I'd win off my own write-in again, but if I do I'll decline since I'm very busy this summer and then I'll be back at school.

As for turnout, if this was the after-work rush, then there must've been tumbleweeds the rest of the day. I believe my slip indicated I was the 34th voter in the Dem primary (at 6pm!) so if that's the case we're heading for pathetic turnout, although my polling station is very affluent and white so there were probably more voting on the Republican side. Side note, I ran into an old classmate I haven't seen since middle school while there. Love it when democracy brings us together!

California elections are a disgrace, if any of the races are even somewhat close we won't know the results for at least a couple weeks

...Why? Why would you vote for Brian Goldberg over Bob Hugin? Hugin is actually a fairly good (but somewhat flawed) recruit.
