Goldwater.

Better the guy that voted for some CRA's and actually did some desegregation on some level, and never lied  about his hatred of all reasonable policies. (Goldwater)

Than the guy that lied about his hatred of all reasonable policies (As his "There you go again" comment when Carter pointed out his Medicare vote, and his remarks regarding taxes against Mondale in '84 so note),  and added the Evangelical vote into a big bloc.. Then there's the "welfare queen" remark,  and his Nixonian behavior regarding the Iran hostage crisis and he Iran/Contra. (The Gipper)

And removing politics, skilled photography beats bad acting.

....

So banning gay people from serving in the military is now a "reasonable policy"? Wink

Fine, 98% of  reasonable policies ~rolls eyes~

Nonetheless, the big picture still stands. The honest conservative beats the snake oil salesman kind of conservative.

I wish this sub-forum's 1980 election was the real one. Goldwater.

Goldwater didn't get the chance to actively damage America, so him.

So Goldwater then for Goldwater vs. Carter (1978) ? A bit theatrical of a reaction, but I s'pose I could see why one could think along those lines. I s'pose whether the President can break treaties when he wants could on some level be a malaise thing ~shrugs~

I'm about to decorate my house with some pictures and flags.  I will hang up a portrait of Christ, the most Jewish-looking depiction of him I can find.  I'm also going to get a USSR flag and hang it up.  then I'll get portraits of Reagan, the Apostle Paul, and the USA flag and hang those upside down.

Goldwater was one of the last Republicans to not be an unapologetic Jesus freak, and Reagan wasn't the solution to the problem, Reagan was the problem. So Goldwater is the clear choice.

I like Goldwater a bit more on a personal level but he would have been a much worse president.

I'd rather rather have a conservative who is honest about where he stands (Goldwater).
