I really don't understand why this is such a huge deal for some or why they're triggered. Just don't get it. Regardless of whether you like Trump's policies or not, at this point you need to accept that there's very strong evidence he broke multiple laws and on issues that aren't minor.

If he's really innocent as claims, let an investigation and trial happen. Whether he's a former POTUS or not is irrelevant. The law is the law. If anything, politicians should be held to higher standard that average Joe's, not to a lesser standard.

Trump is only going to get more unhinged as things get worse for him.

It's already comical how his entire post is in all caps.

The MAGA GOPer's crusade against the Manhattan DA is more than just a disgrace. If he's innocent as he claims, he'll be acquitted.

So the big day has finally arrived? I'm still inclined to say "I believe it when I see it", though it would make sense after they erected these barriers.

Part of me wonders if Bragg is just dragging this out to mess with Trump's state of mind.

Could be. Though could also be that he rushed through the process just to realize right before the finishline it takes more to make sure indictment is indeed approved.

This story died off quick as can be.

Not sure it's dead yet, as it's still ongoing, but the endless headlines "walls are closing in on Trump" have been more than just tiresome. It's almost like the just want to give him free publicity.

I was just coming back from a customer meeting and jumped into the car when the news broke... I didn't expect that to happen, but good it finally did.

Yup, this will certainly help him to win the nomination. However, it's not because of some Dem plot, but because an attorney was just doing his job and because a grand jury found the evidence enough to recommend indictment. Nobody is a above the law. If he's really innocent as he claims, then just make your case before the court.

On an additional note, the fact an indictment potentially helps Trump to lock up the nomination - assuming that's the case - would just be testimony how depraved the Republican Party and a majority of their base are. Because apparently these people are completely unable to realize Trump is a corrupt. You may like his policies or not, the fact this doesn't finish his political ambition shows how deep a self-proclaimed "law and order" has sunk. But well, we've passed this point a very long, long time ago. It goes even so far that they downplay and deny a literal coup attempt. It speaks volumes for anyone who's paying attention.

I know it’s unconventional thinking but I don’t see this helping Trump’s campaign.

Sure, the cult will stick with him but swingy voters will abandon him even more. Maybe he wins the primary but this kills his chances in the general.

I hope I’m right anyway.

As for the electorate as a whole, I don't either see the indictment helping him much. Though it may fire up the base and help with turnout.

Another question here is whether the public views the (not yet in detail presented) charges brought forward as legitimate or whether this just seems like something abstract or basically just "corrupt stuff that all politicians here doing anyway". Then some folks might just discredit this as political theater. You even have Never Trumpers on the R-side like OSR who think this is a political hitjob.

Not mean to be arrogant here, but do these poll results sum up the stupidity of people?

I mean, it is correct that these charges are both politically motivated and justified. There is a political motive to not wanting a criminal to be President, but also this probably wouldn't have gotten as far if it were literally anyone else, Republican or Democrat. Trump has openly flaunted that he is above the law, so yeah it's going to seem political when the law tries to bring him down. It's a sticky situation that I think is being handled about as well as possible, given the circumstances.

That term to me implicates that the charges are either made up for so minor that no ordinary (business)person would be in trouble for. I'd argue that neither is the case. It's dangerous to suggest a pure political motivation because it continues to undermine trust in the justice system. Which really shouldn't be an arm of the political parties to serve their interests. Trump used the Justice Dept. as his personal law firm, and now he's projecting yet again on something he himself is guilty of.

How many pro-Trump demonstrators are there? Just saw a small segment on the news lately, though the interviewed people were totally obnoxious and depraved, claiming he was the rightful POTUS and Biden a cheat.

MTG's rally is getting drowned out by counter-protesters.

The things is that this occurs in a deep blue area.

So I'm not a lawyer, but there are really arguments this case is weak? If Bragg's indictment is mainly based on testimony of Cohen and Daniels, that could be weakspot? A convicted felon and p*rn star might not be the most credible witnesses before any jury. That said, I think it's still important this goes to court. Trump should get a fair trial and if guilt can't be proved beyond a reasonable doubt (although to me it's clear he's guilty of that), he won't get convicted.

I see a potential risk here, because if Trump is acquitted in the end, it may make him a martyr again. Though that will be only after the 2024 election. Not to mention more cases related to him are pending, especially the Fulton County stuff and the DOJ investigating January 6.

On an additional vote: Kind of funny is that the police listed Trump's height at 6'1 and weight at 270 lbs (!!). Not close to the 6'3 and 239 lbs he claimed. Although that was obvious from the start. That's a BMI close to 36. He's obese big league.

lololol... though looks like something was thrown on his way.

That said, I might have rushed to help the dude, even though he's an apparent moron, or at least ask whether he's ok unless he got up immediately. Perhaps I would later have asked him whether he still thinks all Dems are evil.

Does anyone else think that they’re purposefully dragging this out so it has a bigger impact on the 2024 primary/general?
I dunno; I wouldn't want to dismiss the possibility entirely, but such investigations and trials usually take an extended period of time. Especially when famous people are involved that try to fight this nail and tooth with several high-profile lawyers.

I'm pretty confident he won't withdraw because of that. Losing support is more iffy but I doubt it.

Trump isn't going to withdraw, no matter what.

He literally admitted to doing the crime he's being accused of .... on tape

There's a reason his lawyers never want him to testify. Although Mr. Trump thinks he's the smartest man on the planet and that he can run circles with investigators and judges.

Trump only ask Pence to overturn the election in an "aspirational way"

I guess a bank robber can ask for all the money in an "aspirational way" as well maybe?

Seems like thr wrong thread; this about charges under NY state law related to Stormy Daniels hush money, not January 6.
