Looking like the Quadra by-election in 2008.

By the time they finish counting, the general election will have been called. Smiley

Poor Felix-Antoine Hamel. He's the only candidate with precisely zero votes.

Honestly a loss for the liberals might be better than this result as a loss could have resulted in Trudeau actually being forced out of power. This result on the other hand shows that they are as unpopular as the polls say but without the dramatic effect that could result in Trudeau being forced out

Imagine if they had a British-style counting process. We would be waiting until well into next morning. All 84 candidates would be crowded around the podium, and some of them dressed in funny outfits. Then the returning officer would read each random independent getting 3 votes, 7 votes, etc. And depending on the final result, we would be waiting for the Portillo moment.

There are 4 polls left and they just announced there's a problem and they have to start the count again! (Just Kidding)

Liberal lead is back down to 373. This will likely go to the final poll, so we won't know who won until next year.

That... is a Conservative lead now, box 189 to report was certainly the Cedarvale/Forest Hill advance poll: +864 for them vis-a-vis the Liberals!

Another thing: over 40% turnout (so far)--remarkable for a byelection.

And there's still a zero-vote candidate (everyone else has at least 2 votes)

Conservative   Don Stewart   15,555   42.1 %
Liberal   Leslie Church   14,965   40.5 %
NDP-New Democratic Party   Amrit Parhar   4,044   10.9 %
Green Party   Christian Cullis   1,059   2.9 %

43.52% turnout.

Top of the indys: Jonathan Schachter (97 votes--surely the surname)

Felix-Antoine Hamel got zero votes.

And in the end, this feels more like a '95 dawn-of-CSR big-tent circumstance.
