Just for fun.

You are Barack Obama, you just won 2008 nomination. You have to pick you running-mate.

To make this harder, Biden removed his name from consideration so did Clinton

Who would you pick?

Tim Kaine

To reinforce the change message and to definitely boost my chances in VA.

Of course, I would have hesitated on a foreign-policy international-security guy (Sam Nunn, Richard Lugar if he were OK), but, well the GOP is so low and the economic crisis is growing.

I would also have hesitated on Ted Strickland, just to secure Ohio,
and on Jim Webb, also for VA and for military experience (but, well, quite risky...).

I would have considered either a governor or a senator from a key swing state who could win some Independent votes.  I had thought during the process that Richardson would have been a good choice, but I suppose, were I Obama, that the vetting team would have found too many problems.  I think two good choices would have been Bill Nelson from Florida or Webb from Virginia.

Actually, I think you're right, Webb would have been risky.  Nelson, I think.

Mark Warner or Evan Byah. Both are popular, (mostly) well liked, from swing states and moderate.

The answer to every question on this forum: Mark Warner, lol

but seriously, I'd pick somebody nobody would expect, somebody who's very selection could shutup calls that I am a gun grabbing, baby killing, elitist, socialist son of a bitch: Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry. It wouldn't win OK, but it'd destroy a ton of the ammunition the GOP would try to use on me as an out of touch elitist liberal.

Plus, Brad endorsed me despite his state's primary voters going for Hillary. That's got to win him cool points in my book.

Nope.  I was a big backer of Governor Easely during the time before Obama picked Biden, especially when it became clear Warner would run for the Senate.

Chuck Hagel  Nah, I'd have most probably gone for someone like Bill Nelson, or if I was out of other options, Hillary Clinton.  Tongue

Though then again, I could've gone for Hagel...  Tongue

I'll mull over that one for a while...  Tongue

Hagel wouldn't be tolerated by Democratic base. After all, despite his stance on Iraq, he's not a liberal, not even moderate.

Well I would ask Dick Lugar first, but if he said no I would choose Tim Kaine: Catholic, Pro-Life, and from a swing-state.
