How'd I miss this topic?

Um.. I want John McHugh to win, as this district has no other Republicans to offer. (That can win)
How'd you miss that McHugh is being appointed by Obama as Secretary of the Army, thus necessitating the special election? Try to keep up before posting.....

JC, it's called a special election for a reason.

Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman has commissioned a John McLaughlin poll that puts him in a tie for second with Owens:

http://www.politico.com/blogs/scorecard/0909/A_thirdparty_surprise_in_New_York.html?showall

Dede Scozzafava (R) - 30
Bill Owens (D) - 20
Doug Hoffman (C) - 19

On a scale of 0 to 10, with 0 representing zero possibility and 10 representing metaphysical certitude, what is the chance of a Hoffman victory?

0. Not without the Republican line, no way. Scozzafava's personal vote is too large, if nothing else.

McHugh's confirmation is imminent, says CQ Politics:

http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?parm1=5&docID=news-000003204055

So Paterson will probably schedule the special election to coincide with the November 3 general election.

Edit: McHugh confirmed today.

please CfG please do it please, I'd like to see them lose another House seat for the GOP just for the laughs.

It'd also leave Pete King an awfully lonely Representative in the North

There's still Chris Lee. Now, if King ever resigned/was defeated, Lee would be really, really lonely.

I am curious as to why a Republican would support Scozzafava when there is nothing Republican about her.

Hi, are you new here? Smiley

First and foremost I think she will make a damn good member of Congress.

Secondly, I think a Hoffman (or Owens) victory will deepen the wounds for those of us who are fervently Republican but not anti-human whackjobs.

Did Fred Thompson have some adviser that got asked of him what Fred could do to become less relevant?

If conservatives are so electable out in New York, I wonder why there are so few of them serving in office there. Must be a Dedespiracy. Sad

If it weren't for southern conservatives, perhaps the brand wouldn't be so toxic up here that a more mainstream GOPer would be a contender. Surely, New York is lucky to have outsiders dictate who is and isn't too moderate for a state that Republicans won't win again for 50 years.

I'm supporting ScozzaLiberal so we don't give up a seat.

But in 2012 I'll support the Conservative nominee.

Smart move, having the election seem more regular could help Democratic turnout
