If this has already been done and I missed it (or tried to be) forgive me.

This Forum should hold a convention...an actual real life event that members will show up to, and get to meet each other face to face.  If there is enough interest, I will do some work to try to organize the event, but I WILL WANT HELP!!!

When: my thoughts are next summer, a year from now.  It will probably take that long to get this thing organised, and we don't want to conflict with any holidays.

Where: somewhere mid-country, such that both coasts would be equally disadvantaged with traveling distance.  Hey, how about Minneapolis?  Cheesy  Actually Chicago would probably be better.

What: we want to try and get a deal with a hotel for a large group event.  Also some events, probably based around eating and drinking...maybe a boat ride on Lake Michigan?  Tongue  It would be really cool if we could get Dave to show up, and address the crowd!

This will cost you money to do.  If we can't get at least 40-50 people that want to do this, it won't happen.  Right now I'm just floating the idea to see if it has any chance of flying.

Thoughts??

Chicago is the best choice due to good airline connections I would think. Plus, it is a happening place, and my second city to boot. Smiley  I think it is a good idea really. It should be a dinner with dancing after. Bring your dates and wives!

GM, JS and I could watch it all, and tell a bunch of lies about how virile we once were, or still are, or something.  Tongue

It's expensive and not central.

FWIW, I wouldn't be able to get to it unless it were in San Francisco (or wherever else BART may roam).

Chicago would be a nice, central location.  Plus there's really good food and such there and plenty to do.

I've never been to Chicago as a tourist, so I'd be game.

If it's in a good, central location like Chicago and there's enough interest, I'll think about going seriously.

I feel like I'd be too creeped out to seriously go. If it's a lavish party and I can dress to the nines and bring a lady with me, then maybe...

The last thing I would tell a lady I did was post on here.  I only did once, but she was a Young Democrat.

Well, if it was lavish enough I'd tell her it was for something else. Understand I realize the chances of this happening are nearly zero, so I can make outlandish statements like that.

This. If enough normals are serious about going I'd combine it with a baseball trip to Chicago.

I'd happily attend, provided it's located somewhere in the Mid-West. If PT wants to go, I'd probably be able to buy him a plane ticket, though I don't think I could afford a hotel room for him, so if someone else were able to chip in on that, we'd be set.

I'd probably only go if it was in New York or somewhere close by, might not even go then.

It would probably be incredibly awkward for everyone involved.

And one of the strangest collection of folks ever assembled.

If anything, I'd rather just have a small gathering some day with the people I'm really friendly with on here, but that's me.

That's nice. A year is a long way off, so I may be better off financially when the time comes.
