I checked Obama's maternal ancestry in 2008 out of curiosity. His mother is roughly 5/8 Irish, 2/8 German, and 1/8 Alsatian. A little bit of Mayflower blood is in him as well. The German ancestors were born near to Heidelberg, that may have been a reason his half-sister studied there.
